I would like zois to be able to operate a business from home.
I’m building an “apartment style” house for Dowon where the ground floor is a gym. I would absolutely love it if the owners could designate the ground floor as open to the public during business hours. On the second floor, I would like to section off the entrance to the main apartment from an area for the staff to eat, use a staff bathroom, etc.
I love the idea of mixed-use buildings.
If it would be better (for programming and city design reasons) to have properties that are designated as mixed-use rather than allowing any residential property to be converted into a home business, I would be happy with that! The lot could be in a specific location that’s great or not-very-good for businesses, and we could build additional floors to expand the business and living spaces as much as we want to, that would be perfect.
I hope the devs have already thought of it, and it just isn’t ready to show off yet.
They are interested in making more ways for our zois to earn a living on their own terms. I’m certain they’ll expand the types of businesses we can operate, too, like clothing stores, hair salons, etc. If they add flower gardening as a skill, flower shops would be great businesses to operate on a property where your zoi lives in the back of the shop, and grows flowers in the back of the property (in greenhouses or otherwise).
I really like this idea. I would love to have my zoi live in an apartment on top of his/her business. There was an old TV show I used to watch back in the late 90s title Roswell. Where the main lead family owned a dinner and their apartment was on the top floor. It will be so nice to recreate something like that in the game.
In Dowon the bakery has 3 floors above it which say they’re vacant for businesses. But I think that if I’d buy that, it would just erase the bakery on the ground floor instead…
I agree! That would be an excellent option, as long as it’s an additional choice. Currently, you can already live in one place and have your business elsewhere, and that’s great. But it would be amazing to also be able to set up your business on the ground floor of your home with your apartment or house upstairs. Ideally, we’d just let players choose between these different configurations.
I did travel. It basically pauses everything that happens in the main city. BUT I reloaded that save file before returning, since most businesses are bugged since 0.9.0. So I cannot 100% what exactly happens to the business, but by that description, your hometown basically doesn’t change as long as you’re not there
Hmmm, whenever I search info on travelling I get this:
“You cannot use City Travel if you are engaged in any business-related activities. This includes owning a business property, having a registered business, or being employed by a business. To use City Travel, you must sell all businesses and business properties, or resign from your business employment.”
So I guess I’ll have to wait for the new update, which is going to revamp travelling a bit (according to Kjun).
I remember that. Perhaps it’s been improved. Sometimes, I find that a bug was fixed but they didn’t mention it in the list of bug fixes, for some reason. An example is being able to sell whole cakes or whole group meals (like pizza) after a bug made it so we could only sell single portions. It got fixed in the next update without a peep.
Perhaps this is the same.
Make a backup of your game with a totally different name. Then try to travel. If you can travel, save the game under another new name, and travel back to make sure everything is okay. If it is, just reload that save you made when you first arrived at the travel destination. You should be able to enjoy your time in the other city once you’ve tested that it works.
Yes, that’s what I mean. In Cities: Skylines 2, we can build specific zones for mixed commercial + residential use and it’s so realistic. Where I live, there are shops not far from here that have residential apartments above them. I think it’s quite common, and it would be awesome in inZOI!
I remember the Sims 2 Open for Business had the ability to make a private section of your business for residential use (living above the shop or cafe, for example), or make a section of your home a business area (a flower shop, for example).
inZOI specific:
When we buy business property, there’s a description about how well the location serves the business. If it’s a bad location, fewer customers will visit the shop compared to the same level of business in a better location.
Therefore, it might make the most sense for inZOI to have specifically designated lots for mixed commercial + residential use. We could build however we want, but would be able to designate the business area and staff room (like Sims 2 OFB), and inZOI’s business location attribute would influence how many customers visit per day.
A flower shop on the ground floor of a little house in a quiet neighbourhood might perform well with the surrounding families, but regular shoppers wouldn’t find it unless they were in that neighbourhood for another reason. (I know that’s not technically how it works in inZOI, but that’s what the game simulates with different business locations.)
