Can’t place objects in specific spots even though the area is empty

Hi! I’ve run into a strange placement issue that won’t go away, no matter how often I rebuild the room.

In certain areas of a room, the game won’t let me place/drop objects—even though the spot is clearly empty and there’s nothing there that should block placement. What’s odd is that the same object can be placed just a few inches to the left/right without any problem.

What I tried

  • Rebuilt the room multiple times

  • Tried placing different objects

  • Tried rotating/moving the object slightly

Expected result
Objects should be placeable as long as the area is empty and there’s enough space.

Actual result
Placement is blocked in specific spots (even in the middle of the room), while nearby areas work normally.

I attached screenshots to show how extreme it can get (e.g., can’t place weights in the middle of the room, but placing them slightly to the left works).

Has anyone else experienced this? Any known workaround?

Welcome@ RainbowWolf to the Forum. :+1:

I would guess that it is due to the stairs built into the building. No objects can be placed in the area above or below the stairs. In my buildings, I move the stairs that prevent objects from being placed to the side of the building in the construction menu or to an area where the stairs do not prevent objects from being placed. Sometimes even several floors below. This issue with stairs and the inability to place objects has already been addressed in another thread.

Edit: You can delete the stairs for testing purposes and try placing the dumbbells or the cabinet where you want them.

It’s rather affecting objcts placed in rooms above stair cases, in my game too

Yeah one of my house had a serious issue circa 0.4.0 with that as well.

I have never encountered this problem. I haven’t had any issues with stairs either.

This issue affects all of my previous buildings, and there are quite a few of them. Using the Alt key, objects such as a drum kit, ball lamps, plants and a table with a PC can be easily pushed under the stairs. If someone who also loves building doesn’t have these problems, that’s great. But there are areas above, for example with angled stairs, where no objects can be placed afterwards. I help myself by reinstalling the stairs after placing the objects, and so far this has only failed in one building .

Yes, I noticed that peculiarity too, and you know what I thought? That the ready-made objects are already “polluted” and the editor prohibits placing items in these locations, even forcefully through alt.

Second, this place for training with dumbbells might be occupied by another object or an approach space to it.
I noticed that installing a billiard table is not so simple, it gets placed, but playing in pairs doesn’t work—the game says the space is only for one.

Remember in The Sims how it was when you were renovating someone’s house, and it was built so crookedly that you couldn’t remove something and then place it back in the same spot. There might be the same problem here with initially crooked constructions. Maybe AI built them?

Same issue here, stairs are on the opposite side of the property / nowhere near the room so don’t think it’s that…

Empty room above and below it so not sure what’s happening :open_mouth:

I assume it’s part of the “known bugs” they posted?

Edit: I found my issue, for some reason the game wasn’t registering the room below it as a real complete room (even though it was). So I created another empty room shell around my whole property below this floor, removed the ceiling and it worked! I’m gonna decorate it then remove the room I build around it as a work around for now lol

Ah that’s good news! (How did you know the game didn’t register the room below as not closed?)

Because I spent 20 mins editing the room lol I deleted walls, ceilings, floors but nothing worked. So I gave up and just built a huge room around it.
Small room with a floor and ceiling = “Not a room”. Huge room with floor and no ceiling = “Is a room”. Thanks game lol!

I have this problem in a finished apartment on the top floor of an apartment building.

Hello, guys! Thank you so much for all the kind responses!

Unfortunately, my graphics card died while I was playing InZoi (not the game’s fault). My PC is so old it really shouldn’t be able to run InZoi in the first place. I just couldn’t resist. Even ChatGPT was kind of mind-blown that my computer managed to start the game at all.

I can still browse through the internet and do basic “computer stuff,” but as soon as I start any game, my PC freezes and the screen turns into a single solid color.

So for now, I’ll have to save up for a new PC before I can try out your suggestions.

I’ll be in touch!
