Error Message: Out of Video Memory
The game initially crashed when entering the world with this error. After several attempts it now crashes directly at the loading screen without displaying the error message.
Details: I am experiencing a serious issue with the game that prevents me from playing.
The game launches normally, but when I try to enter the world, I get an “Out of Video Memory” error and the game crashes. After several attempts, the issue became worse: now the game crashes directly at the loading screen without even showing the error message.
I have tried almost all suggested troubleshooting steps (graphics settings changes, driver updates, verification/reinstallation, etc.) but none of them solved the problem.
What confuses me is that I was able to play this game without any issues just a few weeks ago on the same system. Nothing significant has changed on my end, so I don’t understand why the game suddenly became unplayable. It feels unlikely that my system became insufficient overnight.
I would appreciate your help in identifying the cause of this issue and how I can fix it.
I’m sorry this bug is bothering you too. Unfortunately, we’ve had various reports of this error message appearing lately. Please take a closer look at this thread: Insufficient video memory - it’d be amazing if you try the numerous suggestions mentioned there and then report back, if something has changed
Additional Info:
To the team members, please merge this thread with the one mentioned above. Thank you =)
Thank you for your response. As I mentioned, I have already patiently and repeatedly tried the solutions suggested under that thread but unfortunately none of them worked in my case.
It’s honestly very disappointing, and I truly feel like I paid for the game for nothing.
I assume your setup (6GB VRAM + 8GB system RAM) combined with shared resources and thermal limits of laptops are closely related to the issue or very likely even the root of it all.
Can you check if the game uses your NVIDIA graphics card and NOT the Intel one? After updates (just like you mentioned) new shader settings and driver updates can sometimes cause the system to switch to the weaker one.
If you want to make screenshots of your in-game graphics settings, we can figure out whether you can tone it down or maybe even switch one thing for the game to work again. You can use the NVIDIA app / NVIDIA experience to access / check the settings if the game doesn’t start at all.
I checked again and the game is indeed using the NVIDIA GPU.
Unfortunately since the game crashes during the loading screen, I’m not able to access or review the in-game graphics settings at all. However as far as I remember, all settings were already set to low.
At this point it feels like there may never be a proper solution. Without realizing it, it seems like I may have already played my last session of the game:(
Ah I wouldn’t say that. The Devs confirmed a while ago they’d continue to make inZOI accessible for more lower-end systems and consoles, so there is hope
No, don’t say that. Hope’s never lost here. It’s just Early Access.
Can you run the task manager on the “performance” window while trying to start it? It could really help to see spikes, etc. if you show of screenshots of it afterwards.
I have also had the same issue for over 3 months and have not been able to get back into my game. The game loads to 100% - Intro video plays through and just stops. then error message “Out of video Memory (same one as above) then exits.
I have more than enough memory and went through all of the basic troubleshooting - Even a few ChatGPT-guided seminars. Uninstalled and reinstalled to do the exact same basic troubleshooting again, 3 months later. Same scenario happens again.
I have also, tried the removal of mods but the only folder I have is ‘user_data’ not mods, no cache.
Hi!!! I didn’t do anything on my end. Luckily the issue got fixed after the latest update. For a while I thought it wouldnt be resolved at all. Thanks for your help anyway:)
