Romance Progression gets permanently stuck with specific NPC (limited interactions despite mutual attraction)

    1. Start a new game (no mods).

    2. Meet an NPC and build friendship.

    3. Start romantic interactions (e.g. “Show Affection”, “Say Something Sweet”).

    4. Increase the romance bar to the stage where notifications like “Mutual Attraction” appear.

    5. Continue interacting romantically and/or go on a date.

    6. Check the available romantic interactions.

    Result:

    Only basic romantic interactions remain available.
    Advanced interactions such as “Kiss” never unlock, even at higher romance levels.

    Additional Test:

    When interacting with a different NPC in the same save file, additional romantic interactions unlock normally.

Hello inZOI Team,

I would like to report an issue that still occurs even in a completely new save file (no mods installed at any time).

After starting a new game, I noticed that with one specific NPC, romantic progression appears to be permanently stuck, although both Zois are mutually attracted to each other.

Observed behaviour:

  • During conversations, notifications such as
    “Mutual Attraction” or
    “You are getting to know each other and are attracted to each other”
    are displayed.

  • The romance bar increases normally.

  • However, the available romantic interactions never expand beyond the basic ones (e.g. “Show Affection”, “Say Something Sweet”).

  • Advanced interactions such as:

    • Kiss

    • Hug romantically

    • Intimate interactions

    • Propose

    • etc.

    never become available, no matter how high the romance bar gets.

  • In the Relationship Panel, the status sometimes does not match the notifications shown during conversations
    (e.g. “Mutual Attraction” appears during interaction, but is not reflected in the relationship stage).

  • Planning a date is possible, but does not unlock further romantic progression.

  • This behaviour is only present with one specific NPC.

Comparison:

When interacting with another NPC in the same save file:

  • Additional romantic interactions unlock normally.

  • Relationship progression behaves as expected.

This suggests that:

The romantic relationship state with the affected NPC may be internally stuck at an early stage and is not updated correctly, even though the romance bar continues to increase.

It seems that the progression unlock system no longer recognizes further relationship development for that specific pair, even if in a conversation it said “Mutual Attraction”.

Since this already happened in a previous save file that later became corrupted after a failed wedding event (see my other report), I am concerned that this might be part of the same relationship-state issue chain.

Thank you for providing such an in depth report about this bug. Would you kindly upload the save file here, so I can look into the issue + the devs can detect the root of the bug faster? :grinning_face:

We’ve had it quite a lot that the problem lies in the gender settings. For example a female Zoi is set as male or Zois are not attracted to the other Zoi’s gender or not interested in romance at all.

You can check that when you click on your Zoi’s card or in CAZ (Create a Zoi). Fastest way to get there is clicking on your Zoi - Change Clothes - Style yourself (it’s on the left, a little icon that says ‘gender’ when you hover over it)

Edit: since it’s an NPC you can only get them to CAZ via cheats afaIk.

The same romantic interaction can be rejected and reduce romance, and shortly after be accepted and increase romance. However, commitment interactions such as asking for a date are still rejected, even when previous romantic interactions were successful moments before. This creates inconsistent and contradictory behaviour.

I’ve done that, and they both are attracted to the opposite sex/gender. So this isn’t the issue.

I think we can close this topic - it turned out, that the NPC obviously needed more time to open up.
