  • Details:
Since public buildings and non-playable households became closed-off (instanced), it’s very hard to enter them using point-and-click in top-down view (overhead view). I want to make clear that I understand why these buildings are now instanced, and I’m not asking for this to be changed. The problem is that while using point-and-click controls, the only way to enter a building is to click on a floor spot inside and choose ‘go here’ or ‘run here’. Now that you can’t see inside buildings any more, this is almost impossible - you either have to try and click through a window, or zoom the camera right in until it goes through the roof.

This is a major problem for people who like to play InZoi in the traditional point-and-click style, similar to the Sims games. I suggested a couple of possible solutions in another thread:

  • Allow us to see inside buildings by clicking on the roof and choosing ‘show interior’.
  • Allow us to click on the door of a building and choose ‘enter’ if it’s open to the public.

Thank you for reporting this. I think it’s truly an issue, but it’s meant to be liked that atm. I think it’d be better if you moved this to the Wishlist category, because it’s techincally not a bug, I guess.

Being unable to enter buildings unless you use manual controls is absolutely a bug. That’s why I specified that I don’t want the instancing changed, just a solution for those of us using point-and-click mode.

I was hoping something would be done about this issue in the March update, but unfortunately there’s no change. So I thought I’d update the thread with a few screenshots to illustrate the problem:

Here is the arcade in Dowon viewed from a distance. The interior is closed off, presumably for optimisation purposes. You can click on it and choose ‘go here’, but that doesn’t allow your Zoi to actually enter the building.

Clicking on the door doesn’t work either. You just get a message saying “you do not have permission to configure the door.”

In the following screenshot I’ve zoomed the camera right in so that it goes through the roof of the building. This is the only way to enter without switching to manual controls.

To any mods reading this topic: please do not dismiss this as ‘working as intended’ and close the thread. It CANNOT be working as intended that it’s impossible to enter buildings in Top view with a mouseclick, when that way of playing the game has been supported by the devs right from the start. What’s more, the problem would be pretty easy to fix just by adding an ‘enter building’ or ‘view interior’ option when clicking on a closed-off building.

Do you have edge scrolling turned on? I use it to move my viewpoint inside the building, then click on the floor and give the go command.

Does that work in your game?

I do, but I can’t click inside the building because the roof blocks the interior view, as shown in the screenshots. The only way is to click a floor spot through a window (if there is one) or zoom in the camera with the mouse wheel until it goes through the roof. It’s especially annoying with apartment buildings where the playable area is high up (and actually there’s another bug there: clicking on the ‘go to elevator’ spot doesn’t work any longer).

A friend who records his gameplay has the same trouble and I was always confused because it looks like he’s playing the same way as I do. I don’t play in TAB mode for over the shoulder, but I do point and click. I’m not able to use direction keys to move around a lot in games any more, so I’m planning to only do it for sailing in Cahaya for now.

In the settings I saw about top-down mode, but I thought that is the same as how play. I could be seriously confused on this one, or there’s a bug that is selectively hitting some players, while others are not.

I always play with walls up and use edge-scrolling, while my friend has to use the manual keys to walk his zois into the buildings.

Could I ask what happens when you mouse over a building in top-down mode? Does it automatically show you the interior? If so, maybe it’s a bug affecting only some people’s games as you say.

I’ll check if I’m even in top-down view. It looks the same as my friend’s, but perhaps he moves the camera down? I’m actually playing at the moment and as soon as my cafe business closes, I’ll check. I had to pop over here to post about a bug with the restaurants.

Anyhow, in a few minutes, I will check what mode I’m actually playing in, and whether or not top-down lets my zoi enter another building with edge scrolling.

Checking out the settings made it clear that I am playing in top-down view, often from the angle of my zois rather than above and looking down.

Anyhow, here’s an unlisted video that shows how I am able to edge scroll and click inside the building in 2 different ways.

[Edit: I took down the video, but the conversation about it covers what was in it.]

I’m definitely using the same zooming-in-through-the roof technique as you from above, but not from the side.

Thanks - it looks like you’re doing the same thing as me and zooming the camera in through the wall or the roof. What I’m saying is that we shouldn’t have to do this - it’s a very uncomfortable and unpleasant way to play and doesn’t work at all for some multi-storey buildings, like the Adam Entertainment building in Dowon. It also kind of ruins the point of playing in top-down view, which is supposed to give you a ‘birds-eye’ view of the location rather than making you zoom in close.

Yeah, I realized it when I had to zoom through the roof like you described, but not from the side. I will test out my Bliss Bay family that lives in an apartment.

I’m sure it’s the same that I can edge scroll through the walls (I don’t need to zoom through walls, just the roofs).

I have always played this way, so I didn’t realize there was an issue at all until the first time I saw a video of someone unable to enter the building in any way other than the movement keys.

It should definitely be easy, intuitive and comfortable for players to access buildings.

@Liessahl it is the same in my game. I would also appreciate to be able to click the door or the building and the Zoi would enter it instead of needing to move the camera inside the building in order to let the Zoi go there.

bumping this

Thanks! Yes, I’ve noticed it’s still an issue in the latest update :sad_but_relieved_face:
