Since co-op is being worked on, I was thinking… how is co-op going to work with us sharing the map with our friends/family.
I’d guess mods will be enabled and it’ll work like regular co-op where the host shares their IP and other people can connect with a password (at least that’s how it works with other games).
My question is… how is the mod installation going to work? Thinking not everyone is using only curseforge mods, some people like myself have found mods on Nexus and if the game requires you to install the mods before you can play I thought it’d cause issues since if we are required to install the same mods some might be missing from curseforge.
So I thought… how could we do that. What if the host is also the host of the mods, and these become shared peer-to-peer instead of going through curseforge. The host would automatically share the installed mods with their friends/family that way we can skip the whole “just use curseforge” block and they can download them directly from the host, or players that are currently online and sharing their mod folder with the “server” (to avoid overloading the host with downloads).
Just wanted to share this idea in case it hasn’t been discussed by the team.
I have a hunch that the online mode will be in a “Krafton only” style. At best, other players might be able to download custom clothing textures to their “temporary files” somewhere. Because otherwise, it’s easy to imagine yourself entering a town and gigabytes start downloading to your computer, because everyone decided to use their own textures for absolutely everything — items, buildings, paintings, custom full-length movies in the cinema, third-party hairstyles and clothing for every Zoi… And if there are also behavior modifications that, on top of that, can start conflicting with each other…
Even if the users themselves agree to this — the developers are unlikely to be able to maintain the stability of such an environment in any way. And all the complaints will rain down on them again, and they’ll have to investigate cases where a million third-party low-quality hairstyles cause game bugs, and each one does it in its own way, and there’s no universal solution besides disabling them. I’m afraid they just won’t have enough resources to fix errors behind every mod creator and rework the game accordingly (often causing errors in other areas in the process). So the “online mode — only from the creators” approach will be the most prudent.
P.S. By the way, this will also preserve user interest in official DLC, which is bound to come. And this is the kind of situation where I’ll be happy (I didn’t think I’d say this, but it’s true) to pay the developers for their work. Because I can see that they’ve chosen a different path than the main competitor (“More money for every repaint of every toilet! Even more!! Even more!!!”), and what they’re doing is more than worth the money, so I genuinely want to support them.
