UPDATE: I added additional ideas with the {NEW} label! ![]()
This post is on behalf of a vegan who would adore seeing more plant-based options when it comes to food, and just making inZOI more vegan-inclusive in general!
Allow me to outline some of my ideas! ![]()
First and foremost, since Zois get the “Wants to Eat a Vegan Meal” wish, I think it’d be helpful to have a “vegan-friendly” label on food items.
As I understand it, some dishes appear to already be vegan such as the salad. After consuming, your Zoi will receive the moodlet: “Vegan Food for Coexistence [from the Coexistence value] What does vegan food taste like? It tastes like an important step toward a sustainable future”. This is lovely!
I’d love to see more vegan-friendly dishes such as:
Breakfast
Sunrise Trio: Oat Milk Pancakes, Smoked Tempeh Bacon, and Tofu Scramble (turmeric, kala namak salt + nutritional “nooch” yeast-seasoned tofu mixed with peppers, potatoes, + spinach).
Overnight Oats: In a jar, with multiple options (i.e., banana, raspberry, blueberry, etc.) and toppings such as agave, chia seeds, flax seeds, etc.
Avocado Toast: With slices of tomato on top and seasonings.
Tofu Cashew Omelet: With sunflower taco meat (inside the omelet), and topped with pico de gallo, avocado, and cashew cheese. Served with triangle-cut toast.
Fruit Salad: With a large dollop of coconut milk whipped cream on top.
Tofu Quiche: With colorful bits of pepper throughout.
Zucchini Fritters: Served with a cashew sour cream + chives.
Morning Munch: Toasted bagel sandwich with tofu “egg”, seitan sausage, avocado, + cashew cream cheese.
Lunch/Dinner
Spinach Panini: Stuffed with cashew cheese, spinach, and tempeh bacon bits.
Veggie Burger: Soy patty, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, cashew mayo on plant-based buns.
Veggie Delight Pizza: Cashew cheese, mushrooms, broccoli, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes.
Buffalo Chickpea Salad Sandwich: Toasted bread (triangle-cut), spinach, mashed chickpeas with plant-based mayo, avocado, tomato, and buffalo sauce.
Buddha Bowl: Bed of brown rice + quinoa, topped with sweet potato, baked tofu, fresh spinach, drizzled with tahini, sprinkled with seeds.
Vegan Alfredo Pasta: Cashew-based creamy alfredo sauce over fettucine alfredo pasta topped with broccoli and artichoke, and sprinkled with pink peppercorns.
Cashew Mac n’ Cheese: Cashew cheese mixed with macaroni, topped with crispy breadcrumbs and chili oil.
Okroshka: Cashew milk-based broth with rice vinegar, lemon juice, and garlic. Contents of the cold soup include potatoes, avocado, red radishes, and dill.
Chickpea Pot Pie: Stuffed with chickpeas, potatoes, carrots, etc. Arugula salad with lemon vinaigrette served on the side.
Dessert
Brownie Fudge Sundae: A brownie topped with fudge sauce, a scoop of oat milk ice cream, drizzled with caramel sauce, some coconut whipped cream topping, and a cherry garnish.
Cinnamon Rolls: Plant-based cinnamon rolls drizzled with a sweet icing made from oat milk and powdered sugar.
Banana Bread: A warm, plant-based banana bread with walnuts for a delightful crunch!
Banana Cream Pie: A bottom layer of crushed wafer cookie crust, sliced banana laid down on the bottom layer, banana pudding poured over, and topped with sliced banana, coconut whipped cream, and shaved chocolate curls.
Chocolate-Covered Strawberries: Plump, ripe strawberries half-dipped in dark chocolate. Garnished with edible flowers on the plate.
Fudge: Dark chocolate fudge topped with ganache, sprinkled with sea salt, garnished with raspberries and mint leaves.
Pistachio Cream Cupcakes: Plant-based cupcakes topped with a sweet, creamy pistachio icing. Garnished with crushed bits of pistachio.
Snacks
Fruit w/ Nut Butter: Banana or apple with peanut/almond butter, etc.
Coconut Yogurt: Topped with vibrant fruits and coconut shreds.
Rainbow Guacamole & Tortilla Chips: Guacamole mixed with diced beets and apples.
Red Pepper Hummus & Pita Chips
Plant-Based Charcuterie Board
Granola
Drinks
Smoothies: (Strawberry banana, kale + apple, chocolate banana, etc.) with fruit garnishes.
Oat Milkshakes: (Strawberry, chocolate cherry, chocolate, etc.) garnished with sprinkles and colorful straws.
Hot Chocolate: Oat milk, dark chocolate. Garnished with coconut whipped cream, shaved chocolate curls and a cinnamon stick.
Kombucha
Coconut Water
Teas: (Butterfly Pea Flower, Peppermint, Lemongrass, Rose Hips, Chai, White Peony, Jasmine, Marshmallow Root, Rooibos, Ginger, Earl Grey)
I was pleasantly surprised to see a vegan food truck and vegan hot dog cart in the game! However, I understand they’re not functional yet. I’d love to see our Zois be able to run them as a business! ![]()
At the vegan food truck, it would be lovely to see special items served that your Zoi can’t make on their own such as:
Special Food Truck Items
Nice Cream: Plant-based ice cream; chocolate, vanilla, mint, strawberry, etc.
Funnel Cake (or perhaps this should be at the boardwalk?)
Taquitos: Soy meat, cashew cheese, etc.
Stromboli: Soy pepperoni, cashew cheese, etc.
Crepes: In the formation of an ice cream cone with vibrant fruits and coconut whipped cream, etc.
Cannoli: Plant-based whipped cream, etc. garnished with dark chocolate chips.
Root Beer Float: Root beer with plant-based ice cream, coconut whipped cream, and a cherry on top.
If we’ll be getting a Japanese town (and I hope we do!
), I think it would be nice to have these dishes as plant-based options (as quick ideas! I can go into more detail if needed about plant-based/vegan options):
Japanese Dishes
Avocado Cucumber Sushi
Yakisoba
Okonomiyaki
Set Menu (rice, miso soup, pickled veggies, daikon + carrot, etc.)
Ramen
Gyoza
Udon
Soba
Wagashi
Taiyaki
“Purin”
Yakitori
Takoyaki
If there is a Japanese town, I can imagine restaurants that may serve items such as:
Special Restaurant Items
Rainbow Cake
Rainbow Gyoza
Gâteau au Chocolat
Lemon Roll Cake
And places like Tokyo have a ton of convenience stores, so I’d imagine:
Convenience Store Items
Onigiri
Bento Boxes
Pocky
Dango
Mochi
If there’s a Japanese town, I can imagine there would be festivals, so perhaps items like dango and mochi could be found at the festival, too.
If anyone has any further ideas for food options (as I mainly only know American and Japanese palettes), please feel free to add them! ![]()
![]()
Now that I’ve spammed potential plant-based food options, allow me to get to the core of what it means to be vegan: It’s the ethical principle that humans should live without exploiting other animals. The public is usually exposed to “vegan” in terms of food options, but that’s the extent. So, I think it’s important to allow players the freedom to choose “Vegan Activist” as a Desired Life, and add a “Vegan” or even just an “Empathetic” or “Moral” trait. These options beyond food will help gameplay be not only more inclusive, but educational as well for those who are interested.
Choosing the “Vegan Activist” as a Desired Life should come with further gameplay options such as:
Street Activism (Event)
Your Zoi can plan and host activism events on any sidewalk (such as a table with educational materials), talk to passersby who stop and seem interested, and debate with them about the ethical stance in an attempt to help them connect the dots. You can choose your actions and other volunteers’ actions (much like when running a business) to restock leaflets, talk to interested passersby, support each other in conversation, etc. I have a lot of experience with street activism, so I can provide a more detailed rundown! ![]()
Volunteer at an Animal Sanctuary (Action)
Your Zoi can go to a local animal sanctuary and help clean and feed the rescued animals (perhaps including some strays you convinced to come to the sanctuary). Since we don’t have many animals in the game at the moment, I can imagine this being a rabbit hole for now until more animals are added. Additionally, you can donate items that the sanctuary needs and money via the mailbox.
Online Volunteer Mentorship Program (Action)
Your Zoi can do some online activism by guiding people with vegan resources (food, clothing, skincare, etc.). This could be simple texting or on the PC, or even via a “Zoom” call if it’s live and you answer mentee questions directly.
{NEW} Wildlife Rehabilitation Volunteer (Action)
Your Zoi rescues injured wildlife, provides temporary care at your residence, and ultimately release the animal back into nature.
{NEW} Vegan Fashion Designer (Job)
Your Zoi will design collections, attend fashion shows, and partner with ethical brands.
Vegan Influencer (Job)
I picture this one as a paid opportunity (depending on your number of followers) where you can do things like post food pics, update your followers on your activism efforts, promote the animal sanctuary and restaurants with plant-based options, etc., collaborate with other vegans, get vegan brand sponsorship opportunities, etc. It depends on your Zoi’s interests as to what their wishes will be with this job, as realistically, not every vegan is interested in posting food pictures. If your Zoi enjoys cooking, then I can see that being a wish! Additionally, once you gain more popularity, schools may contact you asking you to visit their institution as a special guest speaker and give a lecture to the students on why people become vegan. This may result in students reaching out to you about how to get more involved in activism, in which you can suggest street activism and other volunteer work, etc.
Hosting Plant-Based Cooking Classes (Paid Event)
Because I personally love to cook and work in vegan cafes, this would be a fun option for Zois. Hosting cooking classes for groups, or even just a private class at the customer’s house would be ideal.
Plant-Based Private Chef (Job)
Your Zoi could travel from house-to-house, cooking as a private chef. You can promote your services online via phone or PC, post your own cooking instruction videos, and then clients could directly contact you (a text message on your phone), requesting your services. You can accept or decline after checking your schedule. This could be a recurring client who needs your services every Friday night, for example, or just a one-time deal. After completing jobs, your clients may recommend your services to others, and word of mouth could get you additional clients. Furthermore, your clients may post a picture online of the dish you made for them and tag you in it, which gives you some additional trust points and more interested clients.
Vegan Certification Officer (Job)
Your Zoi is an expert in vegan standards & certification criteria, ingredient analysis, supply chain verification, and ethical compliance auditing. With vegan and cruelty-free products on the rise, more and more companies are looking for their products to be vegan-certified. Your Zoi will be contacted by these companies in which you’ll need to meet with them in-person, help them on their path to successful certification, give presentations of action plans to their team, keep in contact with them and answer their questions, etc., and ultimately certify their product if all criteria have been met.
{NEW} Undercover Investigator (Job)
Your Zoi must successfully enter various companies, investigate their animal welfare standards, and bring their operations into the light with the objective of the public boycotting said company until changes are made. This will be a very tricky career because if you aren’t careful, you could face many legal issues involving company defacing and revenue loss due to your actions.
{NEW} Animal Rights Lawyer (Job)
You Zoi specializes in cases involving animal protection laws, corporate accountability, and advocacy. Your Zoi will meet clients, research cases, attend court hearings, win/lose cases that affect your reputation, and help organizations with legal advice.
{NEW} Vegan Food Critic (Job)
Your Zoi reviews restaurants and influences restaurant popularity. The restaurant in question may only have one plant-based option, such as the salad, so your Zoi can give the establishment a poor rating. Similarly, if the staff who cooked the meal has a low cooking level and the dish is of poor quality, you could also give a poor rating. As your influence grows, your reviews will either encourage or discourage the amount of customers seen visiting the site.
Other Actions (just some off of the top of my head, but I can come up with more):
**Advocating for schools to provide more plant-based options for students in cafeterias
Online petitions for a specific restaurant/cafe to provide more plant-based options
Successfully convince others to go vegan** (if they respond positively to your message)**
Produce vegan documentaries
Be a part of Outreach Programs** (such as contacting companies to stop selling fur, etc.)**
**
{NEW} Comfort Another Vegan (when your Zoi finds out they’re experiencing emotional burnout)
On the flip side, there should be negative gameplay structures as well, such as:
Getting attacked by violent passersby during your street activism. Police can get involved and either defend you, or they’re corrupt and brush it off, as they don’t agree with the vegan message either.
Going to jail for rescuing an animal from a slaughterhouse (not every time, only if you’re caught). Perhaps this is a more rabbit hole situation for the action of “rescue animal from slaughterhouse”, and depending on your karma, skill level, etc., you could either end up in jail, or get away with it.
Losing friends when they find out you’re vegan (with Zois who are malicious, for example).
Online harassment when your Zoi is targeted online by users opposing their vegan message, who engage in trolling and personal attacks aimed at provoking emotional distress.
“Picked Apart” moodlet when those you’re dining with scrutinize your plant-based meal with hostile intent.
“Same Old Argument” moodlet when a passerby repeats a commonly circulated argument rather than one based on personal research.
“Emotional Burnout” moodlet when you’ve been met with a lot of opposition in your vegan activism, or your friends and family argue with you extensively about veganism. You’d have to remedy this with any actions that you’d use to recover such as sleep it off, watch a movie, take a bath, go for a nature walk, get lost in a book, etc.
{NEW} “Existential Disappointment” moodlet when your Zoi goes to a restaurant/cafe and you see another Zoi eating a non-vegan dish within a reasonable proximity.
{NEW} “Imposter Alert” moodlet when your Zoi meets another “vegan”, asks what made them go vegan, and they respond with “for health reasons”.
{NEW} “Greenwashing Exposed” moodlet when your Zoi discovers a company markets itself as ethical while hiding harmful practices.
Phew!
I probably have more ideas jostling around in there somewhere, but these are some of the basics I’ve brainstormed so far! To the inZOI team—what do you guys think? If you need any further details or explanations, please reach out! ![]()
To other players (who are interested in also living as a vegan in inZOI)—would there be anything else you’d like to see added according to your interests? ![]()
