Retail and Clothing Store Expansion Ideas

Some gameplay ideas for retail and clothing store gameplay:

  • Allow us to edit outfit presets on mannequins for Zoi’s to buy in clothing stores. Zois can then try them on in fitting rooms, checkout at the cashier, and then get a cute shopping bag to carry the clothes around in once checking out. (hopefully more of the set dressing buildings around Nook’s can be opened up bc it would make a really nice area to shop for clothes)

  • Clothing items (aside from the ones you pick out at the start) will be locked in Caz and only accessible when bought inside clothing stores!! This would create really immersive gameplay with clothing.

  • Wardrobes and dressers can hold inventory of clothing bought by the Zoi, along with outfit presets already owned.

  • The outfit presets bought in stores should be linked to specific categories (everyday, cold weather, sleepwear, etc…). This way we can have multiple outfits per category inside our Zoi’s closet inventories.

  • The inventory of each closet should depend on whatever Zoi is being controlled when you click on the closet. This way we don’t have to assign specific ownerships for every closet bc those closets would be unusable for Zoi’s who don’t own it and it could get complicated.

  • Allow clothing stores to become active careers and apart of the “my business” feature in the future.

  • Gifts that can be bought in stores instead of just online: flower bouquets (coming with the update), Stuffed animals, Chocolate boxes, Purses, Picture frames, Perfumes, Scented candles. There are many stores where it would be appropriate to sell these items.

  • Open up furniture stores so that Zoi’s can go there to actually buy furniture for their house.

Yes heavy on the second bullet point. Players need a reason to go into a clothing store. I am glad this kind of feature is getting more traction. I’m seeing more and more people request this. Hopefully the devs have noticed.

Exactly I’m waiting specifically for functional gameplay with clothing!!

I like some of these ideas, but not the one about being limited to the clothes you originally choose in CAZ unless you buy more - some of the Sims games worked that way and I didn’t enjoy it at all. How many people have just 1 outfit in their wardrobes which they wear all the time? A possible compromise would be to have some items unique to clothing stores, such as ball gowns and wedding dresses, and/or location-specific items - for example, stores in Cahaya could offer resort-themed clothing or traditional local dress. You could even integrate this with the business system by allowing players to design, create and sell their own clothing items.

lol no one has just one outfit… they buy them…it’s realistic for them to have to go shopping for new clothes but if anything they could use a cheat to unlock all clothes in Caz but stuff like this just makes clothing stores have an actual function and more of a push to take your Zoi’s out and about to do things

But your idea would be cool as well I just want clothing stores to be purposeful that’s all

Agreed. When I suggested similar system on Discord, I actually proposed making it optional, but even without that there was huge support (30+30+20…) So we’re gradually “nudging” Kjun about it and hoping it will be added to the game.

Clothing stores

Discord, Discord, Discord

And I know that other posts like this were popular too. Well, I don’t know how else it should be formatted or how many upvotes it needs to actually get done, unless, just…

…clothing stores, and more, along with deeper management systems. To be honest, the business features coming this December may not fully meet your expectations yet. But we will keep building them.

Well, sure they buy them, but realistically anyone who’s reached a life stage past ‘toddler’ is going to have bought/received dozens if not hundreds of clothing items by that point (unless they’re extremely poor). I do agree that clothing stores need a purpose if they’re going to be in the game at all, but I really don’t want the devs to do that by restricting CAZ. Having to go to a store every time I wanted to try out a new outfit in the Sims games was wildly annoying to me.

Of course, this is why I think they will add a cheat to unlock it whenever we want but I’m pretty sure they’re giving us multiple outfits per category anyway so it won’t be just one outfit at the start… Also I think most people keep the same clothes a good 5 years at the longest (minus just buying clothes whenever they want) but as a kid you grow pretty fast the first 15 years. I’d say kids have to buy clothes at least once a year before the age of 10.

I don’t like to harp on about this when it’s not really what the thread is about, but IMO we shouldn’t need a cheat for something that’s already part of the game ever since its release. I tend to feel removing existing options from players is pretty much always a bad thing, whether or not I personally want to use them (see the discussions regarding karma and personality traits, for example). If you want to restrict certain content for the sake of making shops etc. more meaningful - which is perfectly reasonable - it’s best to add in new stuff rather than take away what’s already there.

Anyway, talking of restricted content, I think it would be nice if you could only get certain meals in specific restaurants. Right now most of them seem to serve the same dishes you can make at home; I’d like to see themed cafes and restaurants serving food you can’t get anywhere else (except perhaps with a very high Cooking skill). We already have this with food stalls to some extent, so it would be good to see it expanded.

I do love the idea of furniture stores. The recent gameplay preview for Paralives showed a store where furniture items would sometimes go on sale, giving you a reason to visit the shop rather than just using the build mode catalogue. And again, perhaps these stores could offer some unique items you can’t get elsewhere.

I think a setting in the Gameplay tab would be enough. Something like Creative Mode and Progression / Unlock Mode, a mode with locked items that unlock during gameplay.

But ofc this raises concern, since the devs here and there forget about settings and leave players without options.

Calling it “restricted content” doesn’t make any sense because its just a gameplay feature, it would be adding to the game not taking anything away?? Same with the resturaunt idea which is cool too but again not “restricted content” just a gameplay feature. “Restricted content” feels more like the events that come with items you can only get limited time… I get that you don’t like the idea of it but it really wouldn’t be THAT limiting like they can just add a checkmark above clothing in CAZ that says “Reveal All Clothing”…

Like I said, I have no problem with the feature itself (buying clothes). What I meant by ’restricted content’ is that stuff that’s currently freely available from ’Edit Zoi’ mode would now be locked behind in-game clothing store purchases. Obviously this wouldn’t be the case if they added a checkbox, as you say, but I’m always wary of saying “make this feature optional” because it adds a lot of extra work and testing for the devs (just look at all the issues they’ve had with different day lengths). Another possible option would be to allow clothing purchases directly from Edit Zoi, though that would seem to diminish the point of having stores in the first place.
