I backup monthly (locally, on an external hard disk and an usb stick I carry always with me (it hangs on my phone lol. When it comes to my Zois I’m really paranoid o.o)
Since I create a new save file with ‘save as’ after each session and I play at a super slow pace and I’m primarily story telling, I don’t lose any progress if sth goes wrong. I only need my Zois and the houses I’ve built.
I chose the tiger version because Saiwas Chinese Zodiac is
I’m the queen of backup paranoia, after I once risked losing all my PC data. So I do automatic daily backups of my entire PC, incremental, once a week full backups and on another hard drive daily full backups of my game folders
I never back anything up and I always play with an old save.
Before any updates, I play to the point that I don’t mind if the file gets corrupted, making me start again. So far, all of my old saves have been fine.
I also do a ‘save as’ when I have a new family or a new build but I guess I haven’t lost anything major yet (touch wood) and that’s probably why I don’t do many backups I did seem to have a ton of saves in my folder but it’s all cleaned up. What other files would say is important to refresh with major game updates?
I also haven’t had any weird saves but I do make a backup whenever there’s a major game update, just incase I need something later but I like starting a new save and playing the updated game fresh
I backup my work on my laptop, cloud and USB stick, but that’s all. I had a laptop crash and die on me once. Thankfully, my USB stick restored everything that I needed. I used to backup photos on DVDs, back in the day. But no one does that anymore.
