“Does anyone else use cheats to guarantee heirs instead of doing it the ‘natural’ way? I’m doing a Legacy Play, and to make sure the family line continues, I strictly aim for sons. Since lot space is limited and we have an 8-Zoi household cap, I use the ‘GETBABYWITH’ cheat. I always save right before using it, and if the baby is a girl, I reload until I get a boy. (I started playing like this after the incident where 14 daughters were born.)I’ve actually been playing Sims 3 and inZOI like a royal dynasty long before that new Sims 4 Dynasty expansion came out! I’m curious, how do other Legacy players manage their Legacy play?”

hmm in sims 3 it was eat 3 watermelons to have a girl, eat 3 apple to have a boy, in sims 4 it is eat strawberries and listen to Pop Music to have a girl, eat carrots and listen to Alternative music to have a boy, I haven’t tried out pregnancy in inZOI yet, but inZOI currently does not have an option it appears to be random like real life.

I hope INZOI also has a cheat that can determine a child’s gender, or a pleasant way to have a child of a certain gender born. I don’t even know how Inzoi determines the gender of children. I’d love to see this kind of detail added once the dev team has the breathing room to move beyond the main structure and focus on polishing the smaller nuances. As personal opinion, I think baby genders in inZOI are decided by a random function based on the current time.

Oh man, that’s really an awesome overview of your legacy and all details related to the individual heir. I might “steal” the categories and make my own. Thanks so much for sharing this with us
In my own legacy I haven’t used a preferred gender for my offspring yet. I did this back in Sims 4, to determine who becomes the official leader of the next generation, but that doesn’t fit any of my three worlds so far. I’m all about checking out the genetics system and how it develops over the course of inZOI’s early access and beyond. I love analyzing which details come from a parent or grandparent even.

I keep an excel spreadsheet for my main family and kids, but more for reference than keeping up on legacy.
I do note Hair type/color, traits, desired life, characteristics, which jobs they usually want (including jobless/painter/stay-at-home-mom), and very short summary (kind of like what I would write in smart Zoi).
It helps keeping that family fresh in my mind.
Beside the main family, I do have Samuriko’s dad and mom (first wife of her dad who dies after giving birth to Samuriko), his next wife a decade later and their 1 child (Samuriko’s half-brother) and 4 grandchildren from the half-brother and the hired helper that took care of the then senior dad. I sometimes will run that family as a neighbor on the next street, but not always as I prefer focusing on just the one family.
So lots of notes, but not usually keeping the age group or detailed lineage saved like the OP.

Since I was curious about how genetic traits manifest in inZOI, I have been utilizing the Euclidean Distance Equation. To streamline this process, I developed a custom function within my Excel. The equation used by the ‘Genetic Flow Trace Engine (TRACE_GENETIC_FLOW)’ is a diagnostic tool that measures the similarity of physical traits—specifically hair and eye color—within a Three-dimensional color space (RGB).
The Equation is this : d=√(x2−x1)2+√(y2−y1)2+√(z2−z1)2
Operational Principle:The engine converts the Hex codes of an individual’s hair or eye color into their respective R, G, and B values. It then compares these against the color values of an ancestor to calculate the 'Distance.'Evaluation Standards:A distance closer to 0 signifies that the individual has perfectly inherited the ancestor’s trait.Based on my ‘LEGACY PLAY’ criteria, a value of 40.0 or less is officially recognized as a valid genetic match.
I didn’t set out with the intention of going this far. But during the documentation process, I faced a challenge recording the genetics of a child with two black-haired parents. The term ‘black’ is too broad; one can have a reddish-black hue while another possesses a grayish-black tone. Driven by my aversion to ambiguity and the psychological discomfort of leaving data fields empty, I reached the point of implementing this mathematical approach. While I admit this might be excessive, it has become a meaningful way to sustain my interest in inZOI during this content-light phase. It’s been a fantastic way to pass the time with inZOI.
To clearly identify which lineage a specific genetic trait—such as hair or eye color—was inherited from, While this is a slight departure from the format of my previous legacy registry, I recently added a new column titled ‘Genetic (Incl. ATAVISM).’
The first reason for this addition was that Hex codes alone made it difficult for me, as the reader, to visualize the exact color at a glance. The second reason was the need for a dedicated space to record the precise origins of a genetic trait. When two or more families share a similar genetic trait, like brown hair, I use the Euclidean Distance Equation to verify its source. To reflect these findings, I now use distinctive descriptors and ornate phrasing for each family. Even if the base color is the same, this allows me to clearly distinguish the heritage and trace exactly where the gene originated. Individuals are assigned the genetic descriptors of the family that yields the smaller Euclidean distance.
I also implemented a function for the ‘Lineage Breakdown’ column that traces back through every single ancestor, displaying the lineage percentages down to the minutest decimal places. I feel such a profound sense of relief and satisfaction now. Having gone to these lengths, I’ve become truly curious about how others are playing the game. I think it’ll take a while for my own passion to play to fully recharge, though.

You do realize inZOI is in early access and is most likely going to change how genetics work because right now ppl are complaining about the child is either 100% like father or 100% like mother.
I’m a very simple person and I don’t understand your science but it does look professional, I’d just take the child to CAZ and change the hair color to whatever looks good on them.
Very nice chart for those who can understand it though

You’re absolutely right! I’ve seen the people’s feedback about genetics being a bit ‘hit or miss’ in early access, and I’m also really looking forward to seeing how the mechanics evolve.
Interestingly, through my documentation process, I’ve noticed that while 100% resemblance does occur, most children manifest a complex ‘triple threat’ combination of hair, eyes, and facial features. Since I’ve always viewed appearance as a result of various combinations within the parents’ gene pool, I’m quite curious to see what ‘more diverse mechanics’ would look like beyond that.
I even witnessed a case of atavism! A grandson inherited his paternal grandfather’s looks, despite his own father looking completely different. It made me wonder if a recessive gene system is already quietly at work. Personally, I find the current genetic logic quite impressive. Thank you for the kind words about my complex chart!

It was very interesting to read your thread, I’ve always loved genetics.
I don’t have one main family, but 6 different ones, I play more rotationally than legacy, although then I continue for multiple generations. But for now I’m only on the second.
I keep track of my families in a notebook
. For now the things I’ve noted for each of them are: birth year (timeline and ages are something I care a lot about), hex code for hair and eye color.
As for age, I set the year 2000 when the first Zoi was born in the game (a girl named Dylan because I misread the gender
and I couldn’t change it anymore) and now I’m at 2019.
In my first families the “founders” have red or blonde hair because the intention was then not to create other Zoi but to have them marry Zoi in the game who mostly have brown or black hair and thus create a base of recessive genes with those colors.
But I’m not understanding well how it works, because for example one of my Zoi with red hair, her husband with brown hair, had a red-haired daughter, shouldn’t it not have appeared in that generation since it’s a recessive gene? So I don’t know if dominant or recessive genes are already present.
In another couple him blonde/her red, all the children have red hair, even though all with different codes.

I agree, sometimes the genes aren’t well balanced yet. I assume the devs will make some changes to the genetics system to make it more realistic. It’s on their agenda for 2026, so let’s hope we get to see some improvement
