Genetics Separate From Appearance and CAZ Genetic-View Mode, or in other words, Let My Zoi Dye Their Hair Without Cursing Their Children

Something that I really like about the Sims 2 is that Sims current in-game look isn’t always the same as their genetic look. For example, if a sim is created/born with brown hair, and then in gameplay changes their hair color and then uses the plastic surgery machine, their children will still inherit their original genetics. This is unlike Sims 3/4, where any in-game changes are passed down genetically.

The only issue with the way Sims 2 did it, though, is that it was difficult to know what a Sim’s genetic appearance was. To fix this, I would propose an option in CAZ where you can toggle on “genetic mode,” which will show a Zoi’s genetic values including genetic hair color, body type, face shape, eye color, etc.

This would allow systems where a zoi could dye their hair or get plastic surgery, and it wouldn’t change what their children inherit. It would also create the possibility of uploading zois to canvas or creating NPCs that have had a lot of plastic surgery for storytelling purposes. I think this system is also extremely important for people who enjoy legacy playstyles.

So now if a parent dyes their hair, do the children inherit the dyed hair color?

I hadn’t noticed because I’m still on the first generation and none of the parents had dyed their hair before procreating.

I’m actually not 100% sure myself, but I remember seeing someone complain about this in a video talking about the game, but I haven’t tested it myself yet.

If they have already made genetics separate from gameplay appearance changes, I hope they add in the genetic-view to CAZ though.
