[RESOLVED] Offline Mode: We should be able to play this game without internet access

Please allow inZOI to be played offline. It’s ridiculous that I can’t even play a game I paid for offline.

While some may have consistent internet access others may not. Last year we lost internet access for a few hours, I thought I might as well just play some games, I realized that I can’t even start the game without authenticating via steam first.

Update

Current Solution as suggested by @treeofowl
Set Steam to Offline Mode.

As long as you set steam to offline mode, any internet outages shouldn’t impact running the game.

Offline won’t work because of Canvas. And the world won’t end just because you can’t play for a couple of hours. There are still things like books and other stuff

There should be an offline mode, we don’t need Canvas to play the game, I remember when we didn’t have internet for a year, it was nice to be able to play games :+1:

@LadyContessa Really? You really think this is just about “not being able to play a game for a few hours”. :woman_facepalming: Regardless just because you have consistent access to the internet doesn’t mean everyone else does.

The point is I purchased a product that is stored on my personal computer and I should have access to that product whether I have internet access or not. It’s one thing if I purchased the game to play on GeForce, which uses a remote computer but I didn’t. What is the point of having this game take up 30+ gb on my pc if I can’t even play offline.

You stating “Offline won’t work because of Canvas” is just plain silly. You don’t need canvas to play the game.

What if it’s not just a few hours? What if it’s days, weeks, months? What if it’s forever? What you think is the biggest internet problem “being out of service for a few hours” - is actually a huge privilege. In my country, the government does a lot to restrict the internet; many websites are impossible to access without a VPN. Sometimes I’m afraid I’ll wake up one morning and find I can’t access Steam anymore

I tried switching Steam to offline mode and launching Inzoi. The game works

We should keep Canvas optional regardless of offline or online mode. However, even if I just want to play, the game loads the Canvas page in the main menu whether I’m interested in it at that moment or not. Since it consumes resources, perhaps an alternative should be considered, especially since many people also experience performance issues in the main menu. Because as nice as it is to be able to access Canvas from almost any menu at any time, it certainly impacts computer performance, which would be better utilized in gaming sessions where you simply want to play without wanting to upload or download anything.

@treeofowl yes you a right. Steam offline works. You won’t have to reauthenticate when in offline mode even after shutting your PC down and starting it up again. You will get an error in steam when you don’t have internet access but it won’t stop inZOI from running like it does when in “online mode”. I’m new to steam and wasn’t aware this was a feature. Thank you.

Glad this issue has been resolved now. I moved your topic to the Q&A category since it didn’t fit into the wishlist because it’s already implemented :slightly_smiling_face:

1- How do you switch it to offline mode

2- Does that impact anything at all with the game? Is the play counter affected ? or anything at all ?

3- I suppose Canvas access to the web would not work ?

  1. You click on Steam > go offline
  2. Yes, it affects the counted playtime. Whenever you’re playing while Steam is offline, it won’t count + you can’t access steam cloud (save files are stored on your personal setup, so this shouldn’t be affected)
  3. Yes, Canvas doesn’t load → if only Steam is set to offline mode but you setup is still connected, you can still access Canvas though (just tested it for the following screenshot of Canvas not loading when internet connection is turned off)

Normally I am always online, but when I have serious internet outages, this is the time I want to switch to offline mode.

So can this be done AFTER I lose internet connexion? Or is it too late then ?

If your internet connection is gone before you even launch Steam, it should automatically log in with offline mode. Also if the outage happens while you’re playing something, Steam usually changes to offline on its own. You can always do it manually too though :slightly_smiling_face:

Okay good, because last time I was without internet Steam did NOT switch to offline mode and I was locked out of the game for 3 days. I will try it next time it happens.

Thanks a lot for all the answers !
