Game crashes after loading shaders

  • Game Version: The latest available on steam (App-ID: 2456740 & Build version-ID: 22065184)

  • Platform: Steam windows

  • Mods: (Choose one: never used / removed / active)
:round_pushpin:If you have used mods before, please list them:
Haven´t used mods from the modmenu, but have used downloaded canvas creations which I removed when the issue occurred. Sorry not sure what category that falls under…

  • Hardware Specifications & Operating System (OS version, CPU, GPU, RAM, storage…):
    OS: Win 11 ver. 10.0.2600 / 2600.
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT.
GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB Pulse.
    RAM: 48GB (Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) / 3200MHz / DDR4 / CL16 + Corsair Vengeance LPX (2x16GB)/ 3200MHz/DDR4/CL unknown.
    Storage : 3TB SSD, 600GB still free.

  • Issue Date: 7/3-2026

  • Error Message: It crashes after loading shaders, and I get a message from AMD crash-reporting tool saying “that the time limit for a driver in my system has passed”.

  • Details: Whenever I try to boot up the game it rashes after loading shaders, and gives me the error message above. This problem started today after working flawlessly yesterday. Only difference from today and yesterday before the issue started was that I tried downloading som creation stuff from Canvas.
After the issue started today I´ve tried:

    • Updating my drivers (whichever ones I could).
    • Removing the downloaded creations.
    • Verifying game files.
    • Re-installing the game (one time without removing the inZoi folder from my documents and one time where I removed the documents folder as well).
    • Restarting my computer
    • Clearing the shader cache.
    • Running the game in compatibility mode (for win 8 because that was the latest thing which was available).
The only time I got further than loading shaders was after I re-installed after having removed the documents folder. Then I got to the menu and could even access the character studio. However, then I made the mistake to restart the game to see if it would still be stable, and then the issue was back…

    Kind regards

Hey there, welcome to the inZOI forum!

It might help to delete the AMD generated shader caches if you haven’t done this already (from your post I assume you only deleted the game’s shader cache). You can find the AMD ones here:

Please also doublecheck whether the inZOI mod folders don’t hold any remains of mods / CC anymore.

Hi! Thank you for the response! I realise now that I could´ve been clearer. It´s the AMD caches I have cleared. But I tried it again with the same result. I don´t know If it is worth noting that I didn´t find a D3DSCache folder?
Kind regards

Edit: I also tried reinstalling the game agasin (with removing any leftover game folders) on my main steam-drive (instead of the secondary drive it was installed on before), and this made me able to go into the game once. However, when I tried restarting the game to see if it was still stable, it crashed again..

Edit 2: I found the latest solution posted by the devs about deleting the contents of the GalleryPost directory, and it seems to have worked so far!

Edit 3: Note to anyone reading, it is not a permanent fix. You have to do it everytime before launching the game currently..

It’s really annoying that you have to delete the GalleryPost directory every time before booting up the game, but at least you can play now  Thank you for letting us know. If you stumble upon a longterm solution, please let us know here. I’ll keep an eye out for similar crashes too.
