Greater, Spicier Cutscenes for Milestones/Life Events (In-game cutscene approach)

We have to give credit when it due and is that we do have cutscene in some instances to mention a recent one is the one for traveling to the new Cahaya world, which is amazing!

However, I want to talk about something that I think could elevate the game from a beautiful sandbox to a truly immersive life simulator: more meaningful cutscenes for major life events.

Right now, big moments like getting married or having a baby feel… a little empty. A wedding, for example, is a huge life milestone. It’s a moment of immense joy and emotion. But in inZOI, it feels less like a celebration and more like a simple prompt. One player on Reddit described their wedding experience as a little jarring, where their Zois were just standing in their apartment, a brief cutscene played, and then they were back to just standing there. That’s a huge opportunity for a game with these graphics to create an unforgettable moment.

Here are some specific milestones I think would benefit from a more cinematic approach:

  • Weddings: Imagine a beautiful, unique cutscene for a wedding ceremony. Show the couple exchanging vows, maybe a slow dance, and then a celebration with guests. It would make the commitment feel so much more real and significant.

  • Birth of a Child: This is arguably the biggest life event of all. Instead of a quick fade-to-black or a simple popup, a short cutscene of the parents holding their baby for the first time would be incredibly powerful. This would help create an instant emotional bond for the player.

  • First Day of School/Graduation: Seeing your Zoi off to their first day of school, or a small graduation ceremony for high school or college, would make the passage of time feel more meaningful. It would show the progression of your family’s story.

  • Getting a New Job/Promotion: A quick celebratory animation or a short scene of them at their new office on the first day would add so much to the career gameplay. It would make it feel like they’re actually achieving something.

  • First Kiss: The social interactions are currently a major point of feedback, but a small, romantic cutscene for a first kiss would be a fantastic way to show that a relationship is truly progressing. It would make that moment feel special.

  • Smaller milestones: There are always other smaller milestones, but it would be awesome to have a remarkable cutscene. Let’s say something simple like getting a loan approval? For many people in real life, this fact is a huge deal, depending on their financial situation. So, these ones are not highlighted enough in the game. I think they would be awesome additions that could make a significant difference in the immersive gameplay.

Here’s some more example of these type of achievements.

  1. Receiving an Acceptance Letter: Whether it’s to a prestigious university, a new job, or an art gallery showing, a cutscene of your Zoi excitedly opening an email or a physical letter would be a small but powerful way to show their hard work paying off.
  2. A “First” Experience: A quick shot of a Zoi on their first date, or the first time they make a new best friend. It could be a brief animation showing them laughing together at a cafe or sharing a secret in a quiet corner. This would make the social simulation feel more earned and less procedural.
  3. Winning a Competition: If your Zoi wins a talent show, a cooking competition, or a video game tournament, a short cutscene of them being awarded a trophy or cheering with a crowd would be a great way to reward the player’s effort.
  4. Finally Achieving a Difficult Skill: After a long period of practice, a brief cinematic of your Zoi nailing a difficult piano piece, painting their first masterpiece, or landing a perfect kickflip on their skateboard. It would visually demonstrate their growth and mastery of a skill.
  5. Receiving a Significant Inheritance: This is a huge life-changing moment for many. A scene of your Zoi receiving a letter or a phone call, with a brief montage of memories of the loved one who left them the inheritance, would be an incredibly emotional and immersive touch.
  6. Payday/Paying off a Debt: A simple but effective one. A short animation of a “ding” on their phone with a positive number, or them happily paying off a student loan or a mortgage and seeing their financial freedom increase.

What are your thoughts? Which life event would you like to see with a longer cutscene? Let’s have a discussion!

Feel free to share videos or actual references from past games that excel in this regard.

I also think sad cutscenes and chaotic ones are nice to have in addition to this

Of course, if you have any specific ideas or clips, feel free to share them. The more, the merrier!

Funerals scenes, death of a child, zoi feeling guilty after murder, or maybe your zoi got into a car crash, or a cutscene for the house burning down, etc. a bit darker but i feel like this game is too bright and happy atm haha
