[07.24.26] Bringing More Life to inZOI (Updated)

:psycat_cahaya: Hello everyone, and happy Friday!:psycat_cahaya:

As always, we’re sharing a video showcasing what the inZOI team has been working on this week.

Lately, the team has been approaching development with a fresh mindset by going back to the fundamentals. We’ve been carefully reviewing every part of the game and improving it piece by piece. The more closely we look, the more areas we find that should have been better from the beginning, and that leaves us feeling truly sorry.:sob:

Even so, I believe that as long as we have a clear goal and continue moving toward it, we may stumble, but we won’t stop moving forward.

Recently, I’ve been focusing on redesigning our autonomy system. For this update, I wanted to revisit it from the ground up rather than making small adjustments, so I’ve been rebuilding much of its decision-making logic.

For example, when a ZOI wants to sit down and eat, the game now searches for the most appropriate dining location step by step.

First, it checks whether there is a dining table or table in the same room. If none is available, it gradually expands the search to look for suitable tables farther away.

If the ZOI is inside a residential or business lot, the search covers the entire lot, prioritizing indoor dining areas before considering outdoor spaces. If the ZOI is in a public area or somewhere outside a lot, the search looks for a suitable table within a 40-meter radius.

If no usable table can be found, the ZOI will instead find a nearby chair and eat while holding the food. If family members or friends are nearby, the system also tries to have them sit close together so they can share the meal naturally.

Of course, if many ZOI’s perform this decision-making process at the same time, it can become expensive from a performance standpoint. To address this, we’ve also been optimizing the search order, limiting the search scope, and reducing unnecessary calculations so these improvements remain efficient.

I’m honestly embarrassed that such fundamental behaviors still needed this level of attention. If you’ve noticed other situations where a ZOI’s autonomous behavior feels awkward or unnatural, please let us know. Your experiences and feedback are incredibly valuable and often help us design better solutions.

We’ll continue reviewing the game one system at a time and keep working to make inZOI a better simulation.

The summer heat has been especially intense in many parts of the world lately. Please take care of yourselves, stay cool, and have a wonderful weekend.

Thank you.

Hello everyone. Hard to believe we’re already halfway through the week.
Here’s another update on what we’ve been working on.

1. Diving Content

A little while ago we shared a preview video of diving. Back when we introduced the open ocean and scuba diving last summer, many of you told us you wanted to swim freely beneath the surface.

As we finally started building the diving feature we’d been putting off, simply moving through the water didn’t feel like enough — so we’ve added gatherable resources and other things to do down there as well. We’ll do our best to make it live up to your expectations.

2. Smart Zoi Improvements

We’ve been receiving a lot of feedback about Smart Zoi lately, and we’re currently in discussions with the team responsible to get those improvements implemented.

As our existing content expanded, several bugs appeared where Smart Zoi failed to respond properly. That’s where we’re starting. Once those discussions wrap up, we’ll share the details with you as soon as we can.

If there are functions you’d like Smart Zoi to handle, please leave your thoughts — we’ll review them together.

3. Discontinuing the AI Building Feature :psycat_sad:

We’d love to only ever bring good news, but we have something disappointing to share as well: we’ve decided to discontinue the AI Building feature.

We’re sorry to those of you who have been using it. However, we concluded that with the technology available today, we can’t reach the level of quality you’re expecting from it. We’d rather redirect the research budget behind this feature toward other AI features where it can make a real difference.

If there are AI features you’d like to see, let us know and we’ll pass your feedback directly to the team.

Decisions to remove a feature are never made lightly. Next time, we hope to be back with better features and content.

It’s been brutally hot in Korea lately — even stepping outside for a moment is exhausting. How is your summer going? Please drink plenty of water and don’t push yourselves too hard in this heat. We’ll do our best to at least give you a cool ocean to escape into in-game.

It’s thanks to your continued interest and feedback that we’re able to find our direction. Truly, thank you. We’ll see you again next week.

Hello Kjun and Team:four_leaf_clover:,

thanks as always for the news.

The improvements look good so far. What I liked most in the video is the ability to create a baby Zoi and switching quickly between the family members.

As for the gym, that a Zoi gets more motivated with others, is a cool detail as well.

Another place, where this could be implemented, might be while someone plays music on the plaza and gets inspired to play music along as well, while painting together in a room or cooking/baking.

For the improved routing you suggested during eating, this will help making the eating look more natural.

Other places that could need improvement could be:

  • using a shower/bathtub/toilets (my Zoi tends to pick the furthest one in the house)
  • brushing teeth (Zois keep using the kitchen sink to brush teeth)
  • Using books (Zois keep taking out new books instead of using the one outside with the same topic)

What I would also like to see is, that Zois can autonomously use certain items from their inventory, if needed. Per example, my Zoi needs to fulfill the “fun” need. When I click the button of the “fun” need directly, instead of using yet another book from the bookshelf, the Zoi could also use the book or tablet, that is already in my inventory.

My Zoi has the habit of putting everything into its inventory, which fills it quite quickly and clutters it. So instead of constantly taking new items out, use ones from the inventory instead which could fulfill the need. (Zois also keep putting their unfinished cooking ingredients into their inventory instead of using them sometimes, pulling out another fresh batch of ingredients).

Don’t forget to rest and have a nice weekend everyone:four_leaf_clover:

Thank you very much for this video and for your transparency. I really appreciate that you take the time to explain your approach and that you are going back to the fundamentals to improve the foundations of the game. I believe this is very important to build a deeper life simulation in the long term.

The new motivation system is probably what impressed me the most. At the beginning of the video, we can see that a Zoi is not necessarily motivated to exercise, but that this motivation can change depending on what they do and what surrounds them. I find this much more realistic. Zois are starting to feel more like real people with their own desires, hesitation and differences, rather than characters that simply execute actions.

I think this system could also expand to all activities that require effort or motivation: homework, household chores, learning skills, or even certain careers. A Zoi’s motivation could depend on their personality, character, mood, skills, and even their environment. For example, a noisy, messy, or unsuitable environment could reduce a Zoi’s motivation, while a comfortable, well-designed, or more luxurious space could positively affect their mood and their desire to complete certain activities.

I would also love to see more connections between the different systems of the game. A Zoi’s personality traits, past, skills, and experiences could influence how they behave in their studies, work, and daily life. For example, a Zoi could have different levels of work ethic depending on their personality or background, which could influence their decisions at work.

For education, I would like becoming the best student to require more effort and not be so easy to achieve. Not every student should necessarily graduate; it could depend on their motivation, skills, effort, and personal journey. Zois who succeed could receive a real diploma that has an actual purpose, such as unlocking certain careers or opportunities.

In the same way, reaching the maximum level of a skill should have a meaningful impact. It should not only make actions faster or easier, but also unlock new possibilities related to that expertise. Progression should also be visible through animations: a beginner Zoi and an expert Zoi should not perform the same activity in the same way. A painting created by a beginner should not look or feel the same as one made by a skilled artist. This could also apply to cooking, cleaning, crafting, and other activities. Animations are just as important as seeing the words “good” or “bad”, because they allow players to truly feel the Zoi’s growth.

I also really liked the improvements to Create a Zoi. Being able to create a Zoi from the baby stage and build a family more easily without constantly changing screens is a great improvement.

Finally, I am very excited about being able to choose our own school uniforms. This will allow each school to have its own identity and let players adapt them depending on the city, neighborhood, or world they want to create.

Thank you again for your hard work. I am really happy to see that you are taking the time to connect the systems together, because this is what can make inZOI feel truly alive and unique.

Hi Kjun and the whole team :psycat_thumbsup:

Thanks for this week’s update i really appreciate seeing all the improvements you’ve made. :psycat_paw:

Being able to create a baby directly in the Create a Zoi tool greatly simplifies the character creation process. I also really like the ability to quickly switch between household members while customizing them.

I have a small suggestion regarding school uniforms. Instead of using a mannequin, I think it would be much more immersive if we could access the Create a Zoi tool directly from a locker in the changing rooms to modify the uniform.

Thanks again to you and the entire team for all your efforts. :custom_heart:

Hello Kjun and the team
Thank you for this update, it has been a real treat for us to read about so many good things and all the hard work going into improving features already in existence and even many new ones.
I think how you’ve explained your thought process on how autonomy should be improved in the last two posts leaving me encouraged and excited!

I think i am most looking forward to seeing the cooking and meal issues resolved as it has made the cooking/baking business unplayable at this time. Thank you for the new recipes, maybe a few more items that include groceries or ingredients could be a future possibility.

Above all, family customisations and improvements will be the biggest improvement overall as right now when the child is born they take on their parents characteristics in rather unrealistic ways. Especially considering the new high school features; perhaps we can use this as a place to build the character, ambitions and personality whilst we focus on some skills. -For example, two teens in my game inherited their parents traits but they interfere with the school ambitions and make it very difficult to complete a storyline. i.e. the one is a pacifist but i wanted her to be expelled.. this made the zoi very uncomfortable and didn’t bode well in the story. Perhaps they can develop these important aspects of their lives later on instead of being born with it. I love that we can adjust the uniforms now, thank you!

Thank you again for all the energy and time you have given to Inzoi and its community, have a good and restful weekend.

Oh, developers, I love you!

The moment I wrote that mushroom dishes could be added - and there it is, mushroom soup! It feels like you’re just wizards granting wishes on the fly! :+1:

Very nice approach with improving food textures! I hope this is something that will keep happening in the game, so that the appearance of absolutely all items becomes more and more realistic with each update. This is exactly the method that allows people to make even old games like Skyrim look modern even today, so its importance cannot be overstated! Especially in the life simulation genre.

I’m very pleased that you’ve started changing the interaction menu! Less scrolling to find the interaction you need - this is a critically important point! Thank you once again for hearing us! Yes, it might not look like a super-innovation in the video, but during gameplay it will greatly improve ergonomics!

P.S. And yes, regarding your frustration that “some areas should have been better from the start”. Imagine you’re not a programmer, but a writer. And you gave all of us a draft of a book that’s still being written. You listen to our wishes and gradually make changes to the text. Sometimes you even reread certain passages yourself - and realize that now, a year later, when you’ve stepped back a bit from your initial writing of those lines and look at them “with a reader’s eye”, something seems unnatural to you, you want to remove something, and add something else…

This is a natural process. And we, gathered here, understand perfectly well that we’re looking at a draft! One that you specially shared with us, even though you didn’t have to. So it’s a completely understandable process when after six months or a year we notice those details that simply couldn’t be noticed right away, being caught up in creating the “main plot”. With the game, obviously, everything happens in exactly the same way. So don’t listen to anyone who criticizes harshly while the game is still in early access. They have no right to do so. The overwhelming majority of players love you very much and will always support you, because what you give us is wonderful; it’s something that no one else has given us in many years, no matter how much we asked. So you - you’re our heroes! :folded_hands:

I love the fact that zois will now feel energised from exercising or inspired by seeing other people exercising. However, I think it would be better if this did not apply to zois with the ‘slacker’ characteristic.

I think this environmental influence could be applied to clubs and bars, where most zois feel energised by the music, crowds and dancing. As in the situation with the gym, i think this should apply to most zois but not to zois with the ‘introverted’ characteristic or ‘recluse’ trait.

Hi team! Great work as always. And I’m always thrilled to know that on Fridays we have the weekly video and Kjun’s letter :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I love that the autonomy system is being improved and throughout the months you can tell that everything is running more smoothly and in harmony. But I’m excited to try what’s new. The gym system and the motivation topic. The new recipes look amazing! haha and the new options to customize babies I think everything that has to do with them is important to be able to give more shape to their character and give them personality. Just like the school uniform thing was something necessary, unfortunately I haven’t been able to play as much since they released the last update, but personally that was something that had to be included. This weekend I’ll get to playing because I’ve been wanting to so badly and life hasn’t let me :joy:

PS: I would love it if they put the option in the videos to be able to change the subtitles to Spanish or other languages, as you can in other platforms. Since although I understand part of what I read and hear I always get a bit lost with the translation and unfortunately I don’t pick up the information well. (my life purpose is to learn English, but it’s just not clicking for me :joy:)

A big hug :people_hugging:

Hi Kjun!

A feature I’d love to see is a button that lets you create a new Zoi using the genetics of two existing Zois (for example, two parents). It would be amazing if the child automatically inherited a mix of their facial features and other genetic traits.

Thank you!

Hello Kjun and team,
I would like to report four different behavior issues I am experiencing with a specific teen ZOI:

  1. *Sleep issue:* When I command her to go to sleep, she runs towards her bed, but immediately turns back to her original position and just stands still.
  2. *School issue:* When it is time for school, she goes and stands in front of the bus, but never gets in and doesn’t go to school.
  3. *Homework issue:* When I command her to do her homework, she immediately gets up and walks away without completing it.
  4. *Travel/Teleport issue:* When it is time for work or school, the pop-up menu appears in the bottom left with options like walk, take a vehicle, or “Move Now”. Clicking “Move Now” does nothing for this ZOI, and she fails to teleport or travel to her destination.
I hope these reports help with your ongoing autonomy improvements. Thank you for your hard work!Hello Kjun and team,

Hello Kjun and team,
Thank you for asking us to share our game experiences with you to help improve the game! I absolutely love driving in inZOI, and while the game is already amazing, I would like to share something I wish could be fixed/brought back:
In the past, while driving, we could click on an outside ZOI (not part of our family) and select *“Have ZOI Get In”* to give them a ride wherever we wanted. Now this no longer works; the driver stays in the vehicle, and the other ZOI just stands outside.
Additionally, to get our own family members into the car, we currently have to select each character individually and manually assign them a seat (front passenger, rear seats).
Since I love driving so much, it would be wonderful if we could easily board both outside ZOIs and our entire family together again!
I hope this feedback is helpful. Thank you for all your hard work!

Zoi’s putting food in the fridge is a very welcome improvement. In general, food autonomy makes me waste so much money, Currently my Zois don’t eat the food they cook automatically, same with the coffee they make, instead they keep getting Bibimbap when there’s perfectly fine food on the table. Also, when the first person who eats from a family meal is done eating, the group meal just disappears, so I can’t even store it in the fridge if I wanted to.

Furthermore, I would love it if every meal in the game could be cooked as a group meal. Some meals are still single meals only for whatever reason.

I also love the CAZ changes, but one thing I would really love to see added is creating a Zoi from two Zoi DNA’s. This way, it’s easier to make similar looking family members.

I also hope that the toddler furniture that’s in the game will become functional. Right now, some toddler furniture is still just decorative.

I really appreciate the improvements made to Create-a-Zoi! This will definitely make things feel more seamless.

I’m still holding out hope for individual facial feature presets. I hope that it’s currently in the works at least, as it’s pretty much my only wishlist item at this point.

Good to see the game improving but one thing that possibly need working on is the length of some of the actions , IE make them dance for longer or even an option to make them dance /workout/read/ etc until you actually tell them to stop the action

I agree, it would be great that the college students can get their diploma before becoming adult and also to have more diploma in college (for example my Korean boy wish to become a lawyer but i didn’t see anything in the choice which could match with what he wants so i put him in the management business (as maybe he will own a business later but won’t work inside). Also could you specify what skills our zois have to work on (for now, i can’t see clearly sometimes what skills the diploma includes so hard to choose) I have also one of my future young adult who wants to become a painter and i wish him to study in college to improve his skills (i’m also afraid that he will reach the top of his painting skill before college) . For the club in highschool it would be great to have more club like music, (and more instruments like violin, saxophone, harpe) , painting

Dear KJun,

Thank you for sharing the video with us .

I am really excited about the upcoming addition of school uniforms; it is something I really wanted, especially for the towns of Dowon and Cahaya.

I am also delighted about the fix for the issue with family-sized meals (if I understood correctly what you said in the video). One of my Korean families is quite poor, and the mother would cook for herself and her son; however, if I wasn’t careful, the moment they finished eating and cleared their empty plates, the rest of the cooked meal would disappear too, resulting in a waste of both food and the family’s money. So, if the issue you mentioned in the video is indeed this one, I am very happy to see it being resolved. If I misunderstood, then please do address the problem I just described. Like other players, I also think it would be great to have the ability to drag dishes or food items (such as tomatoes, fish, and pre-cooked meals) directly into the fridge.

I love the two new dishes that you will add in the game in the future (super happy !!! Thank you)

I also think that it’s a good idea what you plan for the babies (add categories to help to find what you want easier) and the possibility to add thing in the cradle.

I also wish to have a family portrait in the game that our zois could have in their home (with different landscapes in the background or have the possibility to take all of our family in picture in the game at the same time (for example if the family goes on holidays at Cahaya and want to take a souvenir picture of them there it would be great)

I wish also to see the pre-teen categories add in create a zoi it would be great !!!

I also wish to be able to create a child with the genetics in create a zoi (like we create the parents and then ask the game to create a kid with the genetics (i know this as be asked by many players and maybe you are working on it already now. )

Thank you as always for your hard work

Have a nice week

I love all of the improvements you’re adding. If I could request one thing it’s that zois that live together being marked married immediately after they get engaged gets fixed or at least added to known issues. It’s been a long time since this bug appeared.
