Dev Proposal to Shorten Day Length

This is absolutely something that would get me to stop playing the game entirely. Please, KEEP THE OPTIONS AS IS, especially the one for 24 hour days. It might not see much use afaik but it’s essential for me because I can’t stand when TS4 was on a 24-minute day and everything took so much time that the game felt less like a simulation and more like a crappy arcade-y phone game. Having to rely on a mod for 24-hour time was awful, and even though I agree the game should be less Sims-like, this aspect of inZoi is one that it should do by default because it was a mod for The Sims 4 rather than being present from the beginning (I don’t remember if that changed recently or if I used that mod last time I played TS4).

Instead, we should have options to set the scaling ourselves for both actual time and for the rate of needs decay. The range of options should be higher, not lower, than The Sims if it is to have a feature that is at all only in the game because The Sims did it first.

Character and NPC Autonomy
In the October update, we shortened the default in-game day length (while keeping the same overall time flow) and focused on making daily life feel more natural and human. It’s not perfect yet, but our goal is to make Zois live like real people.

What with this and the instancing, not feeling particularly listened to at this point. Are there seriously more people on Discord that want this game to turn into TS4? I can’t believe that.

while keeping the same overall time flow)
hopefully this means the default length is 48 minutes
But the needs depletion rate remains 96 minutes.

If not the game will become unplayable for any length of time except 48min.
To those that do not understand, test it now –> Make a game with time passing at 4hrs per day.
After a day or three, your zois are fully rested at 2am then dead tired at noon, fully rested at like 3-4pm, then dead tired again around 8-9pm.

It’s infernal to play, and I only play it because I now have 6 families to follow in that save of mine (my 6 kids and their growing families). In an ideal world the needs would match each length but clearly the game does not work like that yet.

I really don’t understand why they are going ahead though. It’s like going to a restaurant and the waiter ask your group if you want to be seated near the musicians or on the other side. 7 out of 8 of your group agree to sit near the musicians and the waiter sits you on the other side… like wtf.

What? No, nooo, we’re checking. Even my “downvoters” don’t want any alternatives of seamless open-world – they just want things left exactly as they are. So we’re seeing 20–30–40 upvotes for seamless open-world, with maybe 1% actual opposition. Resistance to the 96 min day is minimal too – maybe 1–5% at most, mostly neither yes nor no, but I haven’t seen anyone actually supporting the 48 min day. There was something like “yeah, I kinda like it”, but it’s unclear whether members actually supported it.

It’s all smoke and mirrors!

Exactly. Unfortunately, the response from Kjun posted by LennyOgg above says:

“The correct specification is that all corresponding systems will now align with the new 48-minute default option. This will cause all other options (96 minutes, 4 hours, 24 hours) to not have as-well-balanced systems supporting them.”

So now the default option will be, for some illogical reason, the shortest, with all other options being various shades of unplayable.

No shade against those that may have, but as an avid simmer since it began…

I NEVER was looking for a replacement to Sims, of any version. I wanted to see the evolution of the newest life simulation game - built on TODAY’S tech and not building a sim life game as if it were almost 3 decades ago.

I want inZOI to keep trailblazing, not pander - bc the more developers pander, the more they lose their vision that got them here in the first place. Developers are artists in the truest sense - and they need to follow their heart, never money.

Chasing money - we all lose. :psycat_upset:

Been playing Sims since 2000 too, one of my favourite games of all time. Similarly though, I do not require another clone of the franchise now, just another entry to the genre, with its own distinct character and charm. After more than half my life in Sims, I am ready for something new - as many must surely be.

I don’t want this to turn into The Sims Online :psycat_upset:
Amazing vision, big promises → monetization wins, everbody loses.

TSO was so much fun (before it went live). The community was so engaged and just…FUN. I had terminal FOMO before we knew what FOMO was. Then corporate choices were made out of the core players’ control and it was all ruined. Poof!

All that time spent building a vision and community, and it was just gone. A different post in this forum caused me to fall down a rabbit hole awhile back - there was so much I repressed bc I was so very upset at the time. So much so, I did not even realize how affected I was until 2 decades later. Repression is wild.

I don’t want to do that again. Better yet, I won’t do that again. I know inZOI is NOT the same scenario as TSO - but there are parallels.

Maxis only remains today bc they still had the original game - had TSO been their only product, we would not be talking about them now.

Maxis also remains today bc of the core players - not the dabblers, not trying out simulation game - the core players. We built that city.

I am not usually the forboding type but inZOI needs to keep this in mind - I want them to thrive. I AM ROOTING FOR THEM. :star:

I think we all want inZOI to blow everyone’s minds by showing how far this genre has come.

Respect for The Sims that came before, not by creating inZOI in its image, but by doing better than Maxis could ever do bc Krafton has today’s tech.

*folds up soapbox and gets back to work :psycat_thumbsup:

(forgot about SimCity, lol - but still - I stand behind what I said  )

I’m not sure she understands.
OR –> She knows something I dont.

I dont remember reading anything about “decay and such also get adjusted accordingly”
Quite the opposite. Who is wrong here, I wonder ?

I mean I hope I don’t have anything to complain about… I really do.
But I just cannot take the chance on this… Especially since last time they changed something (age groups) was in June and it’s only going to get fixed in December. 6 months is a long time for annoying changes, heh.

There were a few minor simulation errors, but Zoi can now live a day more like a real person. We’ve adjusted the default length of a day to 48 minutes (you can still change it back to 96 minutes if you prefer — it works the same).

I think I will take Kjun’s words over those of a random poster on Discord… And that quote from him suggests - strongly - that the needs decay is configured to the new shorter day length. He says nothing about it changing dynamically for other duration options - though of course this would be the ideal solution, even if it would mean a lot more programming work needed.

“it works the same” - what does that mean? The same as it does now? If I can keep my day at 96 minutes and my zois do not need to eat and sleep etc. twice as much, I will be happy. However that does not accord with everything that I have read…

This is excellent news, exactly what is required. Thank you for sharing that, GD!

So they DO listen to feedback, clearly  This is wonderful news that puts away the slight worry I started to have that they ask for feedback with confirmation bias.

Let’s remember that just because they don’t necessarily do what you (general), individually, want, it doesn’t mean they don’t listen to the players, and it’s unfair to think so. They have to listen to the whole, along with implementing their own game plans. There have been several ideas I’ve suggested that did not get chosen (majority of my ideas, actually), but I would never think that means they don’t listen to us. That’s not how game development works.

But wow, I am so glad to see they’ve listened to those who said that needs should adjust to all playstyles! This is even better than everything staying at the 96-min day pace.

Thank goodness the “I can only hope that Kjun means what he said” part still applies LOL I was starting to get worried there  So happy he confirmed exactly what will be happening because that seemed like a massive miscommunication/misunderstanding (THANK GOODNESS).

I don’t know if people calling out their doubts in Discord is why he clarified today, but thanks to everyone who did. We can be at ease about this now :face_exhaling:
