Dev Proposal to Shorten Day Length

@SmallArchangel I’m happy for you, Kjun explained the options regarding day lengths today and if you do 96 hours, your needs will be adjusted accordingly, meaning you won’t have to eat or sleep as much. That’s what I understood from the article

And

I’m curious about your feedback on today’s updates. Have the scenarios you’re particularly afraid of come true or are they happening? @GDfromRivendell

Great news, even better than the status Quo.

Now if we could get them to program the pre-0.30 UI as an option (not shove it in everyone’s throat)…
Combining that with the control over the age groups coming in December

And we’re really going in the right direction.

On a side note looking at an other part of the video with the urges thing… they really need stop making the UI larger for ppl that can’t be bothered to “mouse over” the icons for more details. Or give us control to configure our UI the way we want it and SAVE THE POSITION so we don’t have to redo every game/every time I reload.

life sim…. lowering the time and adding teleporting because it took to long. you couldnt make zoi’s leave for work 15 mins early instead? the game already had teleporting too, but should have a system where zoi’s could drive or walk to work and think ahead to leave a bit early so they make it on time. straight teleportation feels so console

Absolutely agreed.
If I could I would even prevent them from using the mass transit options, at least in Cahaya.
Or disable it also if I own a moped, a motorcycle or a car.

I don’t understand the need to teleport.
Even if you get to work late, it’s not the end of the world. As long as you get there and your Zoi complete some tasks (if it’s an active job), or if he works at least half the day, there will be no repercussion.

When they fix the needs depletion rate in this October update, most Zoi SHOULD wake up relatively around the same time provided they go to sleep at same time, so they wont be as much late either.

The walking was okay. Sometime a bit long, but nothing unreasonable.
Oh well… As far as I understood it, teleportation will be an option you turn on. I won’t, but if ppl want to, more poert to them, I also find it cheap

teleportation was lazy but probably the easiest way to appease people asking for a shorter day cycle. my prob is its a really lazy solution and there should be no reason a zoi cant leave a few mins earlier, so even at the slowest speed.

build this behavior into alarm clocks, like you mentioned. but also just create a default behavior where its normal to leave for work or school on time. theres clearly a trigger time for them to head there, why not just tune its time back a bit?

the other things i’d like such as other zoi’s using vehicles, would be great. even kids should be able to hop on their scooters, or go to the bus (which is like a teleport now). there is a lot of ways to do it but i feel simply adding teleportation was the laziest option

The teleportation thing does seem weird - it’s like they deliberately made a change nobody really wanted that much (shorter day lengths) and are now introducing a ‘cheat’ to fix the obvious problems caused by that change. Why not just have Zois take a taxi to work, or use their mounts? You could have different options when selecting ‘go to work’: Walk, Take Taxi, Drive.

Can you report this request on Discord? It makes sense. They don’t look at the posts here, but they look at Discord. @Liessahl

I didn’t have much time to post earlier, but absolutely agree that making the needs system sync to whatever day length option is exactly what is needed, to make any player choice viable.

This thread has now basically been answered, hopefully satisfactorily, but I also agree with the points made by @Samuriko @Liessahl @svujgeoejoxzgctxkd. I will definitely not be using teleportation, as I love this game for the open world, and IMO a life sim allowing your characters to walk or drive to work/school adds to the realism and immersion factor.

I am not on Discord, but will make a post on here about this, just so that it is noted and represented. This is the official forum, after all.

I still wonder what this ruckus really was all about.

Around mid September the discord thread was created.
They said they knew (from a former thread about the same topic) we wanted options and that they planned to change the default daylength to 48 hours anyway and what we think about it.

Only one day later they said:
thx for your feedback, we will proceed as planned (if they already planned to shorten the default daylength to 48 hours, why even ask?)

Then we made an uproar to keep it optional (the 96 hour and the other daylengths) without the
downsides. (They even knew we would from the former thread abt the daylength)

And now, just ~ three weeks later, it is possible to keep it as it was and even improve it and how we always wanted it.

So if they could resolve those issues so quickly, why not just do it?
It was clear from the beginning this would make many players unhappy.

It could simply be a case of communication chaos and misinterpretation. I get what you mean though, if it is not so difficult to sync needs with each time span, why not just do that from the get-go? Perhaps they wanted to know how much the change might bother the player base.

from what i read for posts here i think some people didn’t realize they were going to fix the needs to match timescale anyways, which it currently doesn’t have. so right now if i play at 4hrs time, my zois need to eat 9 times a day which is clearly unintended, but the scaling factor isn’t in yet and so needs works best for 96 mins. changing the default time doesn’t really change anything else once needs scale properly to the time. i still think teleportation is lazy and they should add in some sort of padded time where your zoi knows they have to be somewhere, so they leave earlier. this could also lead to traits for laziness leaving a zoi to be late sometimes, get fired because of it. maybe even a zoi whose a workaholic could get stuck in a traffic jam on their way to work. there is a lot that could be done but it depends on how they intend to implement the rest of the world

At least the teleporting is optional, so you can still have your Zoi travel normally/realistically if you wish to. I think it’s the same concept as the Public Transportation Fast Travel option they have in the game, but without having to walk to the bus if you don’t want to—a solution for people who want to play on shorter day lengths without travel time becoming a stressful issue, especially on saves where you have multiple adults that need to travel to work (e.g., You could teleport most of them, and then travel normally for one, so you don’t have to micro manage every single Zoi to get to work on time). This can certainly be useful.

Plus, you can already have your Zoi leave early if you want to (just manually). The options will still be there. This addition is no loss to anyone who does not want it, but a gain to those who do.

And let’s think about how quickly time actually passes on the 48-minute day length, and then how much time it takes for Zois to do things like get to the bus and enter it, pull out their car and get inside, or walk/jog/run to work. Time gets “eaten” a LOT in open-world simulators (especially when schedules actually matter, unlike most open-world games). It would require more than just leaving a few minutes early for this to work on the shortest day length. Personally, I always have to increase the day length while (realistically) traveling to work to get there on time after a good night’s sleep and taking care of my Zois’ needs, and I have my Zois leave an hour early even still to get there on time.

(Not necessarily to you, but) Respectfully, we cannot assume that the devs didn’t test out many different solutions before settling on (optional) Teleportation. Calling it “lazy” or “cheaty” when it was probably the best solution to add overall for the open-world system on the shortest day length isn’t very fair, imo.

Also worth noting that, while not common in LIFE simulator games, Fast Travel options are a pretty common optional feature in open-world simulators and RPGs in general, and it doesn’t mean other options cannot be added.

That being said, even though it might create more inconvenience with having prep time in the morning on 48-minute days, having Zois automatically start leaving early for work would be nice, and I’ve always wondered why that’s not already a thing. You should suggest it in the Discord server if you haven’t already.

The things they’ve done for optimization purposes definitely needs to be an option. Catering to those who can’t run this game has ruined game play for those like me who can.

The emptiness is a huge problem for me and I don’t even play the game anymore, I just make stuff in the studios. The game is too depressing. It’s empty and hollow and I don’t feel it started out that way. It seems hyper focused on death instead of actually living and playing with these Zois. I’m interrested in the lives they build, not how quickly they can randomly die.

They ruined two of my towns and deleted 1/4 of the Zois out of one. All for their new DLC and optimization. I wonder why I keep wasting my time on the build and character modes. I doubt I will bother past the new year, since another sim game will be released by then and I will probably bail on this for good.

The devs have had so much feedback, but don’t pay attention to it. KJun seems determined for you to play the game as he wants it. Forget about all of the customization they promised. They’ve been slowly removing that.

Why did they even bother creating this forum if they don’t care about our feedback and only care about people using Discord?

I’ve played over 1000 hours of this game, but don’t have a Discord. Does that mean my feedback isn’t worthy? This is their own forum, not Discord. They should try caring about people’s opinions here.

I’m pretty sure the Forums posts’ information gets passed along to them, but Discord is more of a direct communication method, I believe, especially now that Kjun is looking directly in his Discord Threads.

Your feedback matters, regardless of which official InZoi space it is posted. Most people just suggest the Discord server because that’s the longest method of communication with the devs we’ve had, so it’s the “surest” way to be seen, to us players.

I was not aware that needs were going to be made to match timescale, nothing I saw suggested that, so it was not clearly communicated at all. That is why this thread exists, and why so many of us have been concerned about the change.

Also, if the only thing that was being proposed was changing the default time to 48 minutes instead of 96, but that would make no material difference, why even mention it? They should instead have told us about the needs system being amended to work with all day length options, that is the change we wanted/needed to know about.

I don’t think my feedback matters. Nothing has changed based on it. I don’t even think feedback here matters.

Why create your own forum to use a third party like Discord as your main form of communication? There are plenty of people not on Discord giving feedback in threads here and on Steam. If KJun is looking directly in Discord threads, shouldn’t he be doing that here as well? Why aren’t they treating their own forum that way? That’s a choice based on personal preference at this point.

I agree Kjun should have his own category on the left on this forum.
He did take feedback from 2 of my “complaints” (if you can call them that, they were more concerns) and now both of them will be fixed. One in October patch, the other in December patch.

So I think we’re getting thru.
But yeah having the same thread in the forum would be nice.

But were these concerns registered here, or on Discord? I agree with Kaos that more attention seems to be paid to the latter in regards to player feedback.

What’s here doesn’t really come/read through, so get your questions and suggestions ready for the next brainstorm – we’re going scouting on Friday, most likely. Let’s help each other out.

UPD

Also, could you please share: can we create a thread to drop Comment responses by Kjun into? Not sure if that breaks any forum rules. I’ve got formatted versions ready, but the starting page will need to be updated with links or full messages so they don’t get lost among the comments.
