Before 0.4.0, there was a bug (and yes, it was a bug) where with some pre-generated families (like the ‘Collins’ in Bliss Bay), you could have more than 8 family member, by just birthing more children. I managed 12 family members in one save and 10 in 2 others.
Now this was super fun, but part of the bug was where the family bar typically on the right side of the screen would not exceed 8 member. It did not auto-stretch or shrink to reflect the members present in the family.
So just remove the limit of 8 per household, and maybe program the UI on the right to register how many members you have and auto-adjust the size of said bar.
Maybe an option in the menu for “maximum family size” could be added with a number going from say, 2 to 32 and the next being “Unlimited” after said 32 number.
Obviously a large family would make it harder on the player’s PC, but let us worry about that.
This change would be perfect for large families, of course, but also for multi-generational families (Grand-Parents residing with their 4 kids, who each have 4 kids of their own or something like that. Or 2 couples living together as one large family unit.
I don’t see this change being hard to implement, hardest part is the variable size of the UI family bar.
If the bar goes over 16 members, just enlarge by an extra column, and ditto each time you exceed another 16, to keep it from stretching below the screen.
Thank you.
Also, the idea of my family size maximum slider (from 2-32 or whatever) would help alleviate ppl that do not want other households having large families…
Like this bug someone reported. If they set the maximum to say, 4 members? Families would stop having babies at that number.
So shameless plug to have this done. It would make the game much better for everyone.
Someone made a mod to extend family size to 14… In case it interests anyone.
But choosing maximum family sizes should be part of the base game at some point
Oh, this is absolutely beautiful! A mod that expands the household limit from 8 to 14!
But you know how mods automatically get disabled whenever there’s a game update? I’m too scared to try it because I’m terrified of what might happen to households with more than 8 members when that happens… If those extra ZOIs just disappear forever or something, I think I would be absolutely devastated.
I really, really want to download it, but I guess I’ll just have to wait until the devs officially increase the maximum household size.
Still, it’s such an amazing mod. Thank you so much for sharing!
Based on what I know, I do not think they disappear.
Pretty sure they would stay in the house, but if you’re over 8, any pregnant zoi lose their babies and you obviously cannot try for a baby anymore. Until the mod creator updates the mod at least. So if you do not have any pregnant zoi, you can still play normaly.
Oh my god, I want to use it so badly, but at the same time, I’m so terrified! I just downloaded it and—holy cow, it actually works. I can actually have more than 8 members in a household! This is incredible…
That is such a relief to know they don’t just vanish into thin air! But the part about losing babies is so sad. I don’t think I’ve ever felt such intense inner conflict while playing a game before.
But still, I really hope the devs officially release a slider that lets us adjust the household limit anywhere from 2 to 32.
I mean, it’s always felt kind of weird to me. The game lets us build massive, high-rise apartments with multiple units per floor, but we are still stuck with an 8-person limit per household.
Well, I couldn’t resist and gave the mod a try after equipping one of my buildings with 14 beds. Everything ran smoothly and without any performance issues on my computer. There was quite a buzz of activity with the Zois, every floor was bustling. For now, though, I’m going back to playing with my old save file with 8 Zois. Let’s see how long that lasts…
Oh, I couldn’t resist the temptation either, so I finally caved and tried the mod that expands the household limit from 8 to 14! It’s incredible. Aside from the UI clicking not working—you have to use the spacebar to switch characters—it’s an absolutely fantastic mod.
To be honest, I used a classic name generator mod a while back because I loved the idea. But when the game updated, it broke temporarily, and a bunch of my ZOIs ended up with bizarre, glitchy, long error codes for names. After that nightmare, I’ve been pretty terrified of using mods. But this one made me completely forget that fear, at least for a little while!
I actually added more floors to my existing Bliss Bay house and built extra bedrooms! It’s now a massive extended family of relatives with different surnames all living together under one roof. It is just so beautiful.
There was a newlywed couple in this household who desperately wanted a baby, but they couldn’t because we were already maxed out at 8 people. After downloading this mod, they were finally able to start the little family they’ve been dreaming of! I felt so incredibly happy just watching them unfold their story.
