Restrictions on door opening for babies

It often happens to me that babies go places they shouldn’t.
In the City Nest apartment, for example, one often goes to sleep on the landing.
In this house in Oakridge, which is on the ground floor, I often find one in the garden. Or in the closet
Some kind of restriction would be useful, like those real-life stair gates.

It is impossible for babies to open doors. How does this happen? ( I don’t know if the toddler can open it )

I’m talking about toddlers actually, only in Italian the game calls them “bebè” and the translator translates them to babies. I’ve never actually seen them open a door, but they go from one room to another and even go into the garden, if the house is on the ground floor.

For this to happen door locking needs to be added to the game.

So cute! I actually like that they do this since they’re a bit restricted otherwise. I sometimes put the toddler slide outside for them and just let them have at it. They usually don’t go too far, although theoretically I guess could crawl around town.

It’s okay during the day, but I feel a bit sorry when they fall asleep outside at night like this.

This is an absolute must! In the future, playpens and baby gates would help, but in the meantime, please add a child lock permission on doors that prevents toddlers from opening it.

Thanks!

hmm do they sleep in the rain? Yes this issue needs to be resolved. :+1:

I thinks so! Sleepwalking zois are unphased by rain. They’ll catch a cold now after 1 hour in the rain, but toddlers might not have the ability. I read about giving medicine and wiping noses are parenting additions in the December 2025 update, though.

ah yes, they do catch colds, there’s a medical kit and the cheat cureillness [ID]

but I noticed that the baby’s get outside with the doors locked to “me only” by the parent… Idk if anyone has tried putting the doors backwards, because by the look of it without me actually playing with babies is the doors might be no-one can enter, but the ui doesn’t know can’t exit?

I also used the door lock for “only you” on the head of the household, and the family members can go out but not come back inside. Even if you lock it for everyone! I did it while my active character left home for a while.

I had the problem with the door in both orientations (I have a sliding door but it’s hard to tell how it faces). My front door had apparently been backwards because a burglar came inside to pick the lock in my disappointing burglar experience. But now I turned the door and the babies still get out.

This issue isn’t going to affect homes with stairs leading to the ground outdoors, but not all homes are built the same.

outside of door faces you when placing it, to test this further, have the baby in a room, move the door to a place it can be deleted, copy door place from inside the room, delete old door with it’s settings, have the baby go into the room if they teleported out during build mode, have the parent enter the room with the baby, lock door for “only you”, exit the room and see if the baby ever escapes, this is the best workaround I can think of

That is funny the burglar picking the lock to exit smh, did you upload that to YouTube, if so what episode

Honestly best overall choice to fix this is make it that babies and toddlers can’t exit the house to outside unless the player clicks “go here”, like add a barrier to the outer world for babies and toddlers, and if adding barrier can’t let the player click “go here”, maybe the only way can be for the zoi parent to escort them out to play?

hmm this could be a teleporting bug :+1:

It happened in episode 8 of my Dreamkeepers series. The whole thing was insane. It was funny for how messed up it went, but hopefully my next experience will make more sense. :joy:

you should upload that clip of the vid to this forum post :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I shared it here when I wrote feedback about being disappointed by the immersion breaking aspects, and that I’d like to have it be a household-wide event so anyone can try to fight off the burglar. At first, I was salty over the immersion issues but I got over it because I love this game so much.

I don’t want to spoil the surprise for anyone watching the story unfold, but now that you mentioned it, I could create a short clip of the event, or best aspects of it. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: I could do the same with other random experiences (sometimes partially caused by bugs).

I wish there wasn’t a wrong way to place a door though. I’m hoping a quality-of-life build mode improvement will be doors with no wrong orientation except for doors with clearly different sides. That would include the keypad lock, something that looks like a lock on the inside of a sliding door, or anything like a deadbolt where you see the keyhole on outside and handle on the inside.

Actually, I’d love if we could add a deadbolt or subtle “occupied” indicator on typically interior doors. So you could add a little indicator on the outside of a bathroom door that would let other zois know someone is using it. Many zois would respect it, and some just wouldn’t. That would be fun. And a deadbolt add-on could have a lot of use cases.

Guess I should make a new Wishlist post.
