URGENT[v0.9.0 / 20260618.13287.W] Game crashes/freezes when loading New Game or old save files — no mods

  • Game Version:20260618.13287.W

  • Platform: 20260618.13287.W

  • Mods: None / removed. I have disabled mods in Options and disabled all mods in the Mods section. These saves were played mod-free.

  • Hardware Specifications & Operating System : Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 10; Intel Core Ultra 9-275HX; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti; 32GB DDR5 RAM; 2TB NVMe SSD; 2560×1600 OLED 240Hz.

Issue Date: June 19, 2026, immediately after updating to v0.9.0.

Issue Summary:
After updating to v0.9.0 / build 20260618.13287.W, I can no longer get past the loading screen. The game crashes or freezes when trying to load old save files, autosaves, newly created saves, or New Game.

I do not use mods in these saves. Mods are disabled in Options and disabled in the Mods section. I have also already cleared cache files, but the issue still happens.

When trying to load, the game displays warnings about DLC/mod mismatch and partial save data even though the save is mod-free. After clicking OK, the loading screen either freezes or the game crashes before gameplay loads.

Error Messages:
“Loading Error — DLC or Mod data mismatch. Loading may not function properly. Are you sure you want to load?”

Then:

“Partial Save Data Unavailable — Some saved data could not be loaded properly because certain DLC or mods are not installed…”

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch inZOI after updating to v0.9.0.

  2. Click Continue, Load, or New Game.

  3. Select an old save, autosave, newly created save, or attempt to start a new game.

  4. The game shows a DLC/mod mismatch warning even though no mods are installed/enabled.

  5. Click OK.

  6. The loading screen freezes or the game crashes before gameplay loads.

Expected Result:
The game should load normally, whether starting New Game or loading an existing save.

Actual Result:
I cannot get past the loading screen. New Game, old saves, autosaves, and newly created saves crash or freeze during loading.

So now I cant expeireince any of the live gameplay and can’t get past the lobby, I cannot experience features of the new update sadly. Before updating the camee I never experiences crashes of this nature.:sob:

Troubleshooting Already Tried:

  • Mods disabled in Options.

  • All mods disabled in the Mods section.

  • These saves were played mod-free.

  • Cache files already cleared.

  • Issue still occurs after troubleshooting.

Attached:

Screenshots of the warning messages, game version screen, affected save folder if needed, DxDiag, crash dump if generated, and saved graphics option preset files if helpful.

Hi Freedom,

A couple of additional things come to mind that I don’t see listed in your troubleshooting steps yet.

First, if you previously used mods at any point, I would completely remove them from your mod folders from your Documents folder rather than simply disabling them in-game

Second, I would verify the game files through Steam:

  • Steam → Library → inZOI → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files

Since you’re also unable to start a completely new game, this may be an installation issue rather than a save issue. It’s weird that you’re getting DLC/mod mismatch warnings even when attempting New Game. That makes me wonder whether the game is detecting leftover content, configuration data, or downloaded assets from somewhere outside the save files themselves.

Have you ever downloaded Zois, lots, presets, or other content from Canvas, even if you never used gameplay mods? Specially aything with 3D Printer generated items

EDIT: I have consulted this with AI to see if it could interpret the issue and this is what it has to say:

After reviewing the crash information provided, the issue appears to be occurring within the DirectX 12 rendering pipeline rather than during save-game processing itself.

The crash logs reference a D3D12 viewport failure, which may indicate a rendering, shader, display-mode, or driver-related problem introduced after the update. Since the issue also affects newly created games, it may be worth ruling out installation and configuration issues before focusing on save files.

Recommended troubleshooting steps:

  • Completely remove or relocate any remaining mod folders from the inZOI directory structure rather than relying solely on the in-game disable option.
  • Verify the integrity of the game files through Steam.
  • Regenerate the game’s configuration files by allowing inZOI to create fresh settings.
  • Clear the NVIDIA shader cache and Windows DirectX shader cache.
  • Temporarily disable HDR, G-SYNC/VRR, overlays, frame generation, and similar display enhancements.
  • Test the game at a lower resolution (for example 1920×1080), in windowed or borderless mode, with a frame rate cap enabled.
  • Perform a clean installation of the latest NVIDIA graphics driver if the problem persists.

Hi @itsmechiie7

My game has also been crashing for a long time now and no one has been able to help me figure it out, im not super tech savvy so its hard but my game has a similar issue but it loads then plays for less than 5 mins then freezes and crashes to the desktop. I will try to do a few of these things that you have suggested but may i ask…

  1. how do i remove downloads that i previously made from canvas(they prob arent the issue but im willing to wipe anything to get the game working)
  2. when i go to clear the shader cache files am i deleting all the folders or just specific ones?

Thanks for your response!

Twee

I’m experiencing exactly the same problem.

I tried what you said, but there was no improvement.

Hi,

Would you mind sharing also your specs, platform, mods etc? It helps a lot :folded_hands:

Hi Twee!

Of course.

For Canvas downloads, the easiest way is to temporarily move them out of the game folder rather than deleting them outright. That way, if they are not the cause, you can always put them back later.

You can usually find downloaded mods/content here:

Documents\inZOI\Mods

Create a folder on your desktop called something like “inZOI Mods Backup” and move everything from the Mods folder into it. Then launch the game and see if the crashes still occur.

  • For the shader cache, you can safely delete the cache contents. The game and graphics driver will rebuild them automatically the next time you play. These are the folders I would check on Windows. It’s safe to delete the contents of these folders; Windows, NVIDIA, and the game will recreate them automatically.

    Windows DirectX Shader Cache

    1. Press Win + R

    2. Type:

      %localappdata%\D3DSCache

    3. Delete the contents of the folder.

To answer your second question: Just the contents inside the cache folders, not the folders themselves.

For example, if you open:

%localappdata%\D3DSCache

you can select everything inside (Ctrl+A) and delete it, but leave the D3DSCache folder in place.

Likewise, in the NVIDIA cache locations (DXCache, GLCache, NV_Cache), delete the files and subfolders contained within them, but don’t worry if Windows prevents you from deleting a file that’s currently in use.

If you’d like to be extra cautious, feel free to post a screenshot of the folder contents before deleting anything and I can confirm you’re looking at the correct location.

One thing that would also help: could you post your PC specs (CPU, GPU, RAM) and tell us whether the game always crashes after the same amount of time, or whether it seems to happen when doing specific things (opening Build Mode, traveling, entering CAZ, etc.)?

A crash after 5 minutes of gameplay can sometimes be caused by mods, but it can also be related to drivers, shader compilation, overheating, memory usage, or a corrupted save, so narrowing down when it happens will help a lot. Do you usually have anything else open or running in your PC?

Let’s see if I can help you while the team looks at it :custom_heart:

@itsmechiie7 Thank you so much for helping me, i will try all these!:slightly_smiling_face:

ps. I have posted my specs and gone through verifications and uploaded a few files but no one knows what is causing it. When i saw this post i thought maybe i could try a few more things. When i return home i’ll post my latest info and files to this post and hope for the best.

:star_struck:

You are very welcome!

Let me know how it goes :psycat_standing:

@all

I’m happy to report the issue is fixed after the lastest hot patch today on 2026-06-19

The issue has been fixed and my game no longer freezes and crashes.

I have, as @itsmechiles suggested :

  1. completely remove or relocate any remaining mod folders from the inZOI directory structure rather than relying solely on the in-game disable option

  2. Verify the integrity of the game files through Steam (allm y files were verfiied)

just before updating with the latest hotfix, so I dont know if that helped or also fixed it.

I also get the
Error Messages:
“Loading Error — DLC or Mod data mismatch. Loading may not function properly. Are you sure you want to load?”

Then:

“Partial Save Data Unavailable — Some saved data could not be loaded properly because certain DLC or mods are not installed…”

Often, Im not sure if its because I download new mods but Im never removing any mods not sure if that has anything to do with the error

Amazing! Mine game is working atm, a full 2 hour stint! (The longest gameplay ive been able to have without a crash)

What i did:

  1. Removed all mod files from the game directory - including the mod and modsave
  2. Removed the all shaders manually from all my GPUs following this post Resolving Crash Issues After the Latest Update
  3. Verified the files on steam
  4. cleared the PSO and disabled mods in the game menu (just for good measure, no idea if it did anything since i had never used mods)
  5. Tried to remove my Canvas downloads but i seem to still have them so that didnt work..
  6. Created a new Save as file for any sessions i wanted to keep and got rid of all autosaves and old saves
  7. Checked for any driver updates

Its alot i know and theres a hotfix that got released after i did all this so i dont know what did it but its working and i really appreciate the help! @itsmechiie7

Hi my game keeps crashing too I don’t have any mods install ,I’m using a Mac book

Omg I am so sincerely happy that it worked for you and that you can play!!! Yay!

Hope to see your screenshots and storytelling around :custom_heart:

Hello and welcome to the forums!

Could you please let me know if you followed these steps? Also, posting your specs can help a lot! What graphic settings do you use?

Also, I see there is a thread here, maybe we can go over there and try to troubleshoot

I was thinking:

Do you have One Drive or similar enabled?

Have you verified your saves through steam?

  • Steam → InZOI → Properties → Installed Files → Verify Integrity.

Hopefully we will get your game to run!

Game Version:
Platform: Steam
Mods: Never Used. Disabled. Files moved and emptied
Hardware: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D; RAM 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable); NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER; WIndows11

I tried a few times to play but each time the crashes have gotten faster and faster so im including todays latest crash report with this message. I hope the game can be made more stable soon.
ps. Shaders and PSO cleared before trying to load but not helping; verified steam files aswell. Disabled my Nvidia app from making ‘optimisations’.

Uploading: UECC-20260624.13421.W-296783-2163227241BA321D7E5A39A8C124D8F4_0000.zip…
I hope this is the correct folder and correct way to upload. Thanks everyone
