Strange, Harsh Shadows on Objects when Realistic Shadows are ON

Here are all of my Graphics Settings, in case anything else may be relevant to the issue:

Edit: Just putting the comment I made here

After the 0.4.0 patch (Oct 30th, 2025), this issue seems to have resolved itself. I don’t see the strange shadows anymore, even with the same settings.

I’m gonna keep this report open for a while longer, just in case, but at least it’s not happening anymore for now.

What is happening again, though, is the flickering house lights  Somehow, whatever they changed got rid of the harsh shadows and brought back the flickering.

Another case of the shadows:

Realistic Shadows On

Realistic Shadows Off

Heya!

Can you try changing these settings and see if it works? I believe sometimes anything that messes with upscaling can create this type of visual glitch.

I have the same problem, but actually disabling the “realistic shadows” solves it!

I haven’t been able to try this, but when I do, I’ll let you know. But as with another post where I said similar, the point of reporting these types of bugs is for optimization, not for solving them by altering settings, because these types of issues should be optimized so they do not happen regardless of settings.

Hello there! If you read my original post and my later reply showing the fridge shadows, you’ll see I already pointed this out from the beginning and throughout the posts. The comparison photos are taken with Realistic Shadows off and on, and are labeled as such.

The point of this post is to draw attention to the issue so the shadows feature can be optimized to work properly when enabled.

@LazyTaco Yes, certainly, I didn’t mean to say that it “gets solved” in fact. It’s clear that the real solution isn’t for us to change a setting, but for the team to fix the problem at its source. Settings don’t matter. But you did well to clarify the issue, thanks!

Thank you for clarifying! It’s no problem  I basically say that just in case anyway.

I was trying to help, never said they shouldn’t optimize stuff or make it look better. But I thought you’d want your game to look better while they work on optimising it.

Yes, it’s no problem. I only said that to be clear in the post. There was nothing wrong with what you said, which is why I said first that I’ll try it. It would be nice to know what combination of settings causes the issue, if it’s not just Realistic Shadows by itself.

I haven’t been able to test it yet, but I will. Thank you.

Hey, so I finally tested this. Changing these settings has no effect on this issue. The only setting I’ve tried that does affect it is the Realistic Shadows setting. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
