  • Details:
Houses on the map always appear dirty, regardless of how many times they are cleaned or even when using cheat codes. Resetting the house does not fix the issue.

This issue is not location-specific. I have tested by building the house on a different city, and it still appears dirty. The house in question was carefully built in Build Mode and then placed into the game, yet it permanently shows as dirty.

The persistent dirty status also triggers constant reminders, which is very annoying and negatively affects the game-play experience.

I have the same problem. Plus, my Zoi, in autonomous mode, cleans the house very often. Even in the park, before the Christmas tree, it constantly sweeps the street. This obsessive behavior started after the December update. And my house is constantly dirty.

I’ve had this issue a few months ago but the latest fixes helped. In case this bugs you out too much until it’s finally patched, have you tried using the cheat code “stopCleaning true”? It really helped in my case.

Hi HeinziDerHeld,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it does not work. It seems that the house cleanliness is fixed at a specific value (slightly dirty). Even when the house becomes completely dusty, the value does not change. Using the cheat code “instantClean” does not fix the issue either.

This problem is really annoying. At first, I thought it was a bug caused by a mod, but after four hours of troubleshooting using the default methods, I found that the house’s cleanliness level didn’t change. Even after removing the mod, it remained at 3/4 dirty. I even created a new property with positive cleanliness without any mods (really none installed), and found that no matter how much Zoi vacuumed, the cleanliness level wouldn’t change, and cheat codes didn’t work.

I searched online for solutions, but to no avail. I found that a player reported this issue last September, but there haven’t been any replies to that post.

This makes Zoi with its obsessive-compulsive tendencies, get +2 of annoyance every day, and the cat keeps telling me the room needs a thorough cleaning…

I have the same issue in several areas in Dowon and Cahaya too, after December update. The level of cleanliness in houses drops to zero, or minus, and remains fixed. It’s impossible to raise it any higher. Cat keeps saying that the house is dirty. Zois vacuum floors like crazy, 24/7, and basically they do nothing else. And nothing helps. I deleted all mods and 3D objects. I called a cleaning service and did some rearranging. Removed the home and reinstalled it. I even tried using the code to stop dirty, but nothing works. The problem persists on my previously created lots. However, when I started a new game and wanted to place my old house I built myself, it became dirty again… 5 mins it was clean and then - immediately dropped forever.

This is happening to me too. In my game, I discovered that the problem is the collectible items, they are considered trash by the game, which is why the Sims also throw these items in the trash. When I remove them, after a few hours the house returns to having a clean status, but I don’t want to get rid of my collectibles, I have a room with the complete collection of metals, gems, and snorkeling objects.

As a workaround, not fix, have you considered moving your trophies to the house inventory or something, until they come up with a fix?

Yes, moving them to the family inventory “solves” the problem, but I would really like to be able to display them as decoration, after all, it took a lot of effort to complete the collection.

Yeah, I’m with you. It’s still a bug. That’s why I called it a workaround instead of a fix.

But, on the hopeful side, as Lenny said before, now we have a verifiable explanation for two related bugs, so hopefully the devs should have an easier time fixing it soon. So thank you for bringing up the cleanliness issue with them.

Hello @hd292ggzsx,
We are sorry for the inconvenience.

To help us investigate, could you please confirm whether the decorative item was set to display in your house? Thanks!

Even decorative items set to “display” contribute to the house receiving a dirty status. The only thing that changes is that the Sims no longer throw the items in the trash, however, the game still seems to treat any object that is not purchased in buy/build mode as trash. Harvests, metals, precious stones, corals, shells, snorkeling statues, giftable objects, all of this contributes to the house becoming dirty.

Yes, we had that problem with compulsive cleaning at the beginning and they fixed it, but since the December update it’s back and even worse than before, it’s a pain and also just like you I always get the dirty house notification when it’s not true because the whole family spends the day cleaning, including the little kids. I’m hoping they fix it again soon.

I think they might (or might not) be different issues. I didn’t read the board or most patch notes before December, but I haven’t noticed house cleanliness not being capped ever since launch. NPCs may or may not have been less eager at various points to vacuum manically, I can’t tell for sure in retrospect. But stuff like fruits and vegetables always capped the house cleanliness lower. I was even talking to a youtuber back then and told her to get the crops off the tables (which is where they got put back then when you harvested them), and her house cleanliness just jumped. Which is why I knew to try that this time.

I think all that’s different right now is that it might (or might not) be proportional to how dirty the house is. I did notice that immediately after filling every surface with produce or small teddy bears, the two autonomous party member seem to get in a vacuuming frenzy. But that might just be because of selective confirmation bias, and that I was paying more attention to what they’re doing.

At any rate, even without extra teddy bears, the vacuuming seems… random at best.

I notice that in the house where I have many collectible items with a dirty status, even without any dusty furniture, the Sims compulsively vacuum the house. On the other hand, when I play in other houses that don’t have these items and the status is clean, the Sims don’t have a compulsion to vacuum, even if the house is a bit dusty. The behavior repeated itself with both normal Sims and Sims who are obsessed with cleanliness.

I think some of my latest gameplay matches @Moraelin’s theory. In less decorated houses (gifts, items, etc.) the Zois don’t vacuum / very rarely do on their own without me telling them to. You can even see dust gathering in some spaces every now and then. Whenever there’s a lot of decorative items, they go full house cleaner mode 24/7.

Thank you very much for the information, it’s true that I decorated the plot with gem pumpkins, it could be that this caused the compulsive cleaning of all family members, I’m going to try removing them to see if it solves the problem, because it makes me quite nervous that they spend their lives cleaning.

Well, I’ve removed all the pumpkins and gems from the house and put the turtles as decoration, but it keeps telling me that the trash can is full, I look at all the trash cans but it doesn’t give me any option to empty them, would someone know how to help me, please?

Turtle statues also count as trash in the game.

The only thrash-can workaround that comes to mind is to use outdoors ones even indoors. They seem to never get full. I guess they auto-empty themselves or something.

They also seem to lack the option to play in the garbage bin, which can be useful if you don’t want to deal with the ensuing mess.

Thank you very much, I’ll try it too.
